How to change your ERI banner

This has been tested by me on a VX8100 with flash V7 on it, if it works on other handsets or flash, post and let us know.

    Disclamer:
Playing with system files always runs the risk of hosing your phone, I take no responsibility for what you do, nor how this may void your warrenty. Be sure to save a backup copy of any file you modify just in case the phone wont boot, since you can access the file system with the phone turned off via USB.

    1. Ok, so you need to connect your phone and access the file system, I will assume you already know how to do this, its the same as when you add ringtones.
    2. From the root directory, there will be a folder called /eri/. go into it and save the file called eri.bin.
    3. Now open it in a hex editor. A few charecters into the file you will see "Verizon WirelessA" followed by three charecters then "Verizon WirelessB".
Replace the "Verizon WirelessA" with your desired text, there seems to be a 15 charecter limit, less than that is fine. I changed mine to "Semper Fi" and it works fine.
    4. Now overwrite the original file on your phone and reboot, your done. Your new ERI Banner should show on the inside and out.

I like this because I use videos as wallpaper(the ERI Banner covers the white since the video is to small to cover the whole screen) and I don't like the normal banner because it covers the image. Now that the grit is done, if you don't see anything, or if you dont know what your eri banner is, its the banner right bellow the red bar where your signal and battery meter is. It may be turned off, go into Settings & Tools -> (3)Display -> (1)Banner - > (2)ERI Banner and set it to on.

OK, I have scowered the phones file system, and dug through as many system file hex dump as i could. all in all, I have come to the conclusion that since the bars are a solid color that it is probably something in the firmware, maybe a few bits, that set the color and the themes as well. thats my two bits.
