I need to know this in order to decide if I should get an MDA. Helpppppp!!!

Well, I want to get rid of my Treo 650 (Unlocked T-mobile) for a new MDA. I use my PDA for two main things, browsing the web and TEXT MESSAGING. I message a whole lot.

Now, one thing I really like about the Treo 650 is that it combines the entire conversation into one window. So it becomes kind of like a chat screen. I like this feature as it is fast and easy to read and reply to mesages quickly when ur using your phone to chat with someone that is on a computer.

My question is, what kind of text messaging feature does the MDA have? Does it combine all messages into a single chat screen, just like the Treo?

That is my main concern with switching to an MDA.

The second, less important feature I am concerned about is the browing capabilities (internet). I like the Treo because I have T-zones ($4.99) and I get EDGE speeds on it. Will the MDA give me the same? One camplaint I have with the Treo is that the screen is so small so sometimes it is hard to browse web pages with pictures and lots of text. Are the MDA's browsing capabilities better?

It would really help if somebody formerly had a Treo 650 and now has an MDA. Please let me know if it would be a good decision for me to switch, based on what I listed is important to me.

Sorry, not into IM so I can only speak to your second issue, web browsing. I go to the landscape mode (keyboard extended) and can get a pretty good view of a web page. The browser in Windows Mobile 5 does a relatively good job of resizing pages and so forth. One nice thing is there are other options. Some people prefer NetFront, Opera, miniMo, ... (see FAQ at beginning of this forum.) I don't think you have so many options with Palm.

I currently have a Treo 650 on T-Mo and have recently purchased an MDA. The Treo will not give you EDGE but is still faster than the MDA believe it or not. SMS from the Treo is a snap from it's own dedicated screens. With MDA, it isn't as nice but still usable. It is part of the Messaging program which includes your Outlook and any POP email accounts. Much more user friendly on the Treo IMO.

    After using the MDA for a week, and updating to the 1.12 radio ROM, I will be returning it due to 3 main reasons;
    - Form Factor - The Treo is much more user friendly for dialing, typing, checking e-mail, everything
    - Radio issues with the MDA are still present. It randomly loses signal and takes a while to recover. It does have EDGE capability, but is much slower at retrieving e-mail and browsing than the Treo
    - Overall performance is slower than the Treo. To be expected when comparing MS to Palm, but for my main needs which are phone, email and overall ease of use, I have to say the Treo is my preferred choice.

    Hope it helps .......

When replying to text (SMS) messages with the MDA, the previous message is not displayed. However, all incoming and outgoing text messages are saved so you can see them separately. I understand what you are looking for as I had the same functionality on my previous Blackberry, where the history of texts was diplayed in each message - not so on the MDA.

I have the iMate KJAM (aka MDA) and have installed the new rom that allows push email. In my opinion it is much faster at retrieving email. There is no retrieval needed. The SMS application in the Treo is much better, but I am sure that there will be an application that you can get for the MDA that will have the same features. I would have to disagree with the form factor. I love the keyboard on the MDA.

The Treo 650 WILL give you Edge service with T-Mobile. I had a few Treo 650s and they do support Edge, and they do work with Edge on T-Mobile's service. Edge on the Treo is NOT faster than on the MDA/9100/Wizard. I did a few speed tests at a few different site when I had both at the same time and the MDA managed the same, and sometimes better, speeds when compared to the Treo 650. Text messaging however is a real strong point on the Treo. I really miss the SMS interface. The MDA, and all WM devices, treat SMS messages just like individual emails instead of chat sessions. It works very well, and is just as easy to use as the Treo's SMS setup, but you just can't scroll back through a conversation as easily. As for web browsing, compared to the Treo, the web browser on the MDA is awesome. That is actually one of two reasons I switched from the Treo.

I find that the MDA is actually more user friendly to use than the Treo for a couple of reasons. I like the idea of a touchscreen and I am a big supporter of actually touching the touchscreen. I don't know why so many refuse to touch the screen, but I am not one of them.

The MDA manages to get my emails very quickly. I do admit that the Treo does get POP email a bit more quickly, but with ActiveSync and IMAP, the MDA seems just as fast, if not slightly quicker. I think that overall the email setup on the Treo 650 is has better options than the MDA, but it is unreliable, and this is well known. VersaMail is not your friend!

I don't have a Palm OS vs. Windows Mobiel preference, but I do have device preferences, and for now I greatly prefer using the MDA.
Take a look at my new blog: MobileGenius. It is really just a few reviews at this point but I think I cover a few things that some of the reviews I have read do not take time for. Feel free to leave a comment!
