Anyone switch between bl-5c and bl-5ca batteries without issue?
what the hell is a bl5ca battery? never heard of that @_@
Me neither. But it exists~ http://www.nokia.com.au/nokia/0,8764,76277,00.html Nokia 1110 uses it for sure, the 1112 coming out will be using it as well. It's 700mAh vs. the 850mAh for the regular bl-5c.
it might fit then...but i suggest u getting a bl-6c instead~Originally Posted by Kspecial
Kspecial,
I have found a lab test report performed by iTESTLAB in China. http://itestlab.dgzu.com/post/19.html (You may need to read the cached copy at Google and it is written in simplified Chinese font).
It basically gives out the background, technical specifications, lab results of this battery. It shows the test subject not only meets its expected capacities but has a 792mAh (13% more than specification) in the test according to the GB/T 18287-2000 standard. The most intriguing thing about the BL-5CA in that report is that, this model is manufactured by BYD ( http://www.byd.com.cn/index.asp ) comes with the recent batch of 1110 while the earlier batch of 1110 came with the Sanyo (Beijing)'s 970mAh battery in China.

So, if "700 mah battery actual capacity is 792 mah" @3.7v, then I should have no problem swapping between that and an 850mAh @3.7v BL-5C--IF they fit.
Thanks for the info HC - NO "i"![]()
Don't you decrease battery runtime when you go down in amperage? Ie a 4400mA laptop battery lasts for 2 hours, a 7200mA lasts for 4. What would the benefit be in going with this bl-5ca instead of a bl-5c?
just curious.
It's really about using the higher capacity battery in the phone which ships with the lower capacity battery.
i guess there is no harm in interchanging the batteries... i read that the same batteries can replace both the BL-5C and the BL-5CA.. the only difference that i came across was the mAh figure.. the bl 5c has 950 odd mAh and the bl 5ca has 720 odd mAh... and the same phones are shipped with these two different batteries in different countries..
can anyone tell me what a swollen battery indicates???
i have a swollen BL5c and it is clean, ie it is not from the defective batch... i checked with nokia...

I'm glad to make my first post in the forum, hello! I just tried swapping these two batteries. My old Nokia 6230 has a BL-5C battery and my mother's 1200 came with a BL-5CA. Both phones work excellently with both batteries and the 1200 is capable of charging the BL-5C too. However, the 6230 does NOT charge the BL-5CA, just says "Not charging". Go figure.
^ Hi, welcome to HoFo! I'm not surprised OLDER phones may not recognize the BL-5CA battery at all. I've tried one w/ the 3100, 3120 (the old one, not the new "classic"): both CAN'T charge the BL-5CA.Originally Posted by Loom
It means failure in one of two ways - the "separator" between the "plates" has developed a pinhole allowing the battery to "short" ... the high temperature has caused the "solvent" to expand and the case bulges. Possibly the event has closed the pinhole. Another way this can happen is that the protective circuit has failed allowing the battery to overcharge. This liberates lithium metal which is very active. The lithium metal reacts and the heat evolved causes the solvent to expand. It's possible to break the battery case and the battery matierials will catch on fire on exposure to the air. This is known as "battery explosive vent with flame."Originally Posted by shashank86
I wouldn't carry this around in my pocket.
