No, I want to narrow down that there is not some other, yet unfound seem edit...

Remeber when the E815 came out.. some were missing the Vcast icon? Verizon issued a "patch" that was not an actual firmware upgrade, that put that icon back on the phone...

Since the Verizon UI appears to be an app that sits on top of the Motorla firmware, my thinking is.. that .04 might just be an "upgrade" or "patch" to the Verizon UI part, and not a "full flash" or full Firmware upgrade.

Why? because when flashing, it usually wipes out the old code, then installs the new (which is why going from .02 to .03 removed OBEX).. So if OBEX is included in .04, it really shouldn't matter what you had before...

We got "leaked" flash files for the .02, and .03 firmwares... .03 was noticably smaller in size, and does not contain the OBEX code.. Without having the .04 flash file, we cant see what size it is to know for sure.

So my guess is... that .04 is either...

    1. a NEW flash, in which case, the OBEX code should get put back, and just a seem edit to enable/disable...

    OR

    2. its just a "patch" to the Verizon UI and not a full flash, so whatever low level flash code was on your phone BEFORE .04, is still there... which is why going from .03 to .04 still leaves us with no OBEX...

    Make scense??

So, if we can compare the seems, find out what other bits are different, we can rule out that a seem edit will fix it..

Another factor that may be more evidence that this is simply a "patch": Most of the reports I have seen from posters who have upgraded to the .04 firmware say that it has only taken a short time (15-30 minutes.) A full flash at corporate stores traditionally has been taking 45-60 minutes or more.

and i forgot to type.. I don't have a V3C, so I can't comment on your issue. Sorry...

As more people flash, hopefully someone will be able to report their results on this issue...

I have .04 and both the picture ID and the ringer ID work on mine.

then, someone with 04 with no obex should exchange seem with someone with 04 with obex (assuming the known obex bit is set) to see if there are other bits that may get the 04 with no obex to work. and if the 04 with obex will suddenly not work after loading the 04 with no obex seem.

You can do that, but you wont know what bits might be changed, why, and what effect it will have on the other phone.. (same reason I don't like pre-edited seems that have no read me!!)

In theory they should be the same... But I'd rather error on the side of caution and say lets do a binary compare FIRST before we ask someone to load it, and possibly mess up their phone...

the bit by bit compare would only be meaningful if the 04 with no obex get his phone to work after loading seem from 04 with obex. if it still did not work, there is no point doing the bit by bit compare.

While this seems completely logical, I think all Mark is trying to say is the if we load the seem from .04 with OBEX (that may contains diff. bits b/c of the previous .02 version), we don't know exactly what those bits do and take the risk of hosing the phone if they don't mesh* with the .03 to .04 upgrade....and that's no fun.

its less risky to compare BEFORE loading. that is the advantage I see..

but if you or anyone else wants to try just loading the seem... I'm not going to try and stop you.

    I don't have a V3C, so I can't try it either way.

Bummer. I was all ready to head down to the store at lunchtime and have them flash me to .04. I'm at .03 though so I guess it's not really worth it since all I want is OBEX.

Oh great.. This will be fun to keep straight...

Lets see, if you go .02 to .04 you keep OBEX, but loose Ringer and Picture ID?
and if you go from .03 to .04, you don't gain OBEX, but RID/PID still work??

While we're focused on talking about OBEX... Any other "problems" or issues to report with this new firmware?
