Motorola V3C – New Software 01.15.04P

I just got off the phone with a national customer service manager, who confirmed that the .04 firmware is *not* intended to reintroduce OBEX to the phone. He, unfortunately, also confirmed that Verizon has no intention of reintroducing OBEX anytime soon, and while he was sympathetic, he said that he'd rather be honest than offer me what I wanted to hear. Hysterically, he then recommended that I "visit sites on the Internet that might offer me instructions about how to add OBEX Bluetooth functionality back onto my phone."

This makes me sad. It makes me sadder still that there are times my phone takes photos that are then deemed to be too large to send via MMS ("attachment too big"), so they're truly stuck on my phone unless I hack it.

As of a phone call today, here in the Denver area the VZW stores are not doing the flash upgrade to .04 - - they claim there is a bug that is causing some RAZR phones to be "messed up."

Anyone else experience this? Anyone else in the Denver area?

I believe this as I am experiencing the "mess ups". I have gone from .02 directly to .04 (no stopover with .03) and, yes, OBEX works, and, yes, MPT works (w/o seem edict), and yes all of the other "fixes" discussed here work BUT:

1. Photo CID no longer works (even though photos have been assigned and show up in the contact as being assigned).
2. Ringer ID/Distinctive Ring no longer works (even though ringtones have been assigned and show up in the contact as being assigned).
3. Speed Dial no longer works (i.e. I press and hold 2 to call home; it's assigned to that number in contacts; but instead of placing the call after holding the button down, I get "Call Failed:" message).

I've power cycled, soft reset, removed battery, master reset, etc., etc. Nothing fixes it. Something is fubared, and now I have to go back to have them do it again.

I got the RAZR V3c when it first came out in December. If I install this new firmware on my phone, will I still have bluetooth (because I do now)? Also, how do I get this new firmware?

I went from .03 to .04 (never had .02, I just got the phone). I just tried speed dial (press and hold 2), and it worked fine. I just tried distinctive ring (called my cell from my work number) and it worked fine.

I think, in summary, this is a big mess.

I didn't see any new firmware. Today I called VW. I talked to a customer service why VW has disabled the OBEX on the Motorola RAZR V3C and she said that that phone does not come with that option. I told her that many people have that option, she kept saying that it doesn't. What I did at the same time, I emailed them and here is their answer:
"...It is for this reason that this handset and our other Get It Now
enabled Bluetooth capable handsets do not have Bluetooth Object Exchange (OBEX)
or file transfer capabilities enabled. We understand and apologize for any
frustration or inconvenience this may cause you but we cannot enable this
functionality for you."...

That means it has the option, but they just don't want to enable it to people.

The .02 firmware, verizon "accidentally" left OBEX enabled. (We say accidentally because Verizon's web site and product literature states that it does NOT have OBEX Filetransfers, BUT those who got the phone, could most certainly see and use the profile.)

With the .03 firmware, Verizon did fix that mistake and didn't just turn it "off", they removed the code from the firmware.

I just wrote a long post about all this; it contains the info that I posted above (about the Verizon rep verifying that they have no intention of turning OBEX back on), and a general summary of how Verizon's actions have had unintended consequences.

No futher details were forthcoming. The VZW rep said to "check back next week" and when pressed if that would be because a better upgrade would be available said "I don't know, but check back."

Went to my Local Verizon store today to do the upgrade and I was told the new update is buggy. Tech said he can still do it if I wanted him to and if something goes wrong with my Razr they would replace it for me. Probably a refurb which I will not settle for. My Fiancee has the Pink Razr and they said they would have to order hers if something went wrong with it.

I just said I was going to wait for a bit.

I live in Nashville and stopped in the Green Hills Verizon store this afternoon. The tech said he did have the 04 firmware, but he was having problems getting their PC to actually do the upgrade on the RAZRs that they have. He said he didn't know if he just got a bad image, if there is some sort of issue with their PCs, or what. He said to check back in a few days.

This may explain why some areas have the new firmware and some don't.

so in conclusion, of the 19 pages a just read ,
going from 02 to 04 leaves obex
going from 03 to 04 does not add obex
my question is...in a few weeks, when people purchase a new razr, and it comes with 04, will it have obex? anyone have any idea on this.

Besides that the tech told me that the update as buggy, he says I would loose all of my Get it Now Apps, Games etc..

Has anyone else loose there Get it Now Apps, Games etc.?

It sounds to me like Verizon has now realized that the 04 firmware does not disable OBEX for users upgrading from the 02 version so now they say it is buggy and they will probably be pulling it. I hope 04 gets leaked real quick.

I just got my phone flashed at my local store in depew NY. I went from the 02 version right to the 04 version. The problems reported with the custom ring tones/pictures for people in the contact list have not happened on my phone. Everything is perfect besides i hate the ugly orange color on the front lcd...

The store rep did not say anything about the flash being buggy besides you might loose your pictures/contacts if something happens. I was fine with this and in 8 minutes the flash was done. I walked out a happy man, with a razr that no longer was slow...

After updating to the .04 release my phone does not indicate that an alarm is set on the status bar unless I restart the phone, and then... it disappears once the alarm is turned off and then back on again.

Anyone else having the same similar issue?
