Just installed the 04 software and the menus are much quicker. One other thing i saw fixed that i didn't see posted before is that when you try to save a picture from a picture message, with the older firmware you couldn't just hit "4" on the keypad and save the pic (unlike all of the other menus where you can hit the number of the menu you want on the keypad). With 04, this is fixed.

    Help me beat Verzion

    Help Me Beat Verzion

I went from .03 to .04P (Although the new S/W didn’t show the P part of the S/W)
Could not transfer any ring tones or pictures.

I am still not sure if I have you will have OBEX.

    I then went from .04 to .02, then from 02 to .04.

Still could not do any transfers.

    What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to do seem edits to get OBEX to work?

NOTE: This is "shortcut version of the instructions" has only been tested using Verizons Razr v3c firmware .03 with USB connectivity, Windows XP and the software listed below. Bluetooth file transfers (OBEX) are not supported with firmware .03 even with this seem.
for other information or the complete convoluted & scattered instructions go to http://www.v710.org/mark/index.htm

    Here's the more concise version:

    1. Install Motorola Phone tools (works with 4.0.4b and earlier), reboot and make sure you can connect to your phone. (close the app when finished)

    2. Install USBSER.SYS (if using win xp & CDMA phone) obtain from http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/upgrade/US/

    3. Install PST 7.2.3 with patch - do a google search for this or beg someone besides me!...if you really can't find it pm me technokid88

    4. Install (unzip) PST drivers if you are using USB cable - obtain from http://www.v710.org/mark/Files/E815-...riverPack1.zip

    5. Install (not really - just unzip to a folder on your pc) P2KSeem
    Obtain from http://www.v710.org/mark/Files/P2KSeem4V710.zip

    6. Run PST 7.2.3 phone programmer - Please Note -
The Windows Add New Hardware Wizard should run, automatically search for, find and install the new drivers which you installed in step #4. If not, point the wizard to the folder you unzipped the drivers in. The phone will now be listed as Motorola USB Modem in device manager.

(If your phone shows up in device manager as Motorola USB Modem, launch PST using the Phone Programmer icon off the start menu. Again, if this is your first time doing this, or you have connected the data cable to a different USB port, the Add New Hardware wizard will run. It will try to install.... Communications Class - Control Interface, Data Logging MCU Interface, Test Command Interface, and Accessories Interface. For all of these, choose "Install from a list or specific location..." then click next. On the following screen, to the right to the "include this location in the search" click browse... and direct it to where you downloaded/unzipped the V3C PST drivers to. If the add new hardware wizard does NOT run, check device manager for a Motorola USB Device group with Accessories Interface, Data Logging MCU, and Test Command Interface listed. If you have them, you can proceed. If you do not, unplug your phone, power it off/on, and reconnect. These devices must be installed for P2KSeem to connect to the phone! They will only be listed in device manager while PST is still running so DO NOT EXIT PST! )

PST really gives NO indication that it is connected to your phone. To test... Launch PST... When it comes to the main interface, click File -> New -> Phone Book File -> Ok. You will be presented with Untitled Phone Book File. Use the Phone pull down, and click READ. PST should start reading the contents of your phone's Contacts. If it finishes, PST is connected. NOTE: Be careful when doing this in PST, choosing an improper option (even for reading) can fry your phone!!

    7. Leaving Pst 7.2.3 running on your pc, Open P2kSeem.exe from the download location.

    8. P2KSeem should say "connected" in the lower left corner.

9 . Locate the LOAD area in the bottom right corner. Change the Seem to 2742 and Record to 1. Once they are filled in correctly, Click the LOAD FROM PHONE button.

    10. You will see a bunch of "junk" (really its hex codes, etc) in the top part of the window. Under Selected Byte Details (lower left section) you will see OFFSET:0000 (that is where the cursor is at load time.)

    11. You want to backup the original seem. click save to file, choose the location and name the file 2742_0001.bak and ok to save a backup copy

    12. Go down to Line 000060 and go over to e3 (may be e2 on some phones) should say offset 006a - added by shandon

    13. Click on the box for BIT 0 to put a check mark in it. That sets BIT0 = 1 (this turns on the USB File transfer for music/video/pictures in the motorola phone tools software) **do not experiment with any other bits**

    14. Click Save to Phone

    15. Click Restart Phone

    16. Close P2kSeem & PST

    17. Unplug the usb cable from your phone, and then plug it back in (this resets the connection with the pc after programming)

    17. Open Motorola Phone tools

    18. Press <F6> or go to menu/setup/general setup

    19. click on communication tab and choose change modem

    20. click Next 2 times

    21. click the box beside "do not automatically detect..." & click next

    22. click on Motorola CDMA & choose V3CM & Click next

    23. click finish & Ok

Now your MPT software should connect with your phone and show you the multimedia studio & calendar options.

If not, reboot your pc and reopen phone tools to connect again.

If all you want to do is flash down to .02 without all the problems associated with P2K and PST - use these directions - using RSD is MUCH MUCH easier...
    TESTED BY ME IT WORKS.........
    _______________________

    Here’s what you will need:

    DriverTool here: (http://forum.osnn.net/showthread.php?t=79697&page=51)

Motorola v3c USB Drivers here: (http://forum.osnn.net/showthread.php?t=80317) (Page bottom of 1st first)

Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) 4 (google this-get version 4 if you can - if not get close and do a update from inside the MPT to version 4.

Motorola RSD Lite v. 2.5 (Needed to flash v3c to ver .02) (google this also. its not free but a little bit of searching will find it.)

    version .02 flash file (http://ryfiles.com/flash/)

To downgrade the Software on a Veizon v3c to .02

    Install Motorola Phone Tools 4
    shut program down
Install Motorola RSD Lite v. 2.5
    shut program down
Run driverTool (phone not attached to the PC)
    reboot PC
After reboot start RSD Lite 2.5
    Connect Phone to USB cable
youll get a "new hardware found" message
chose "let windows find the file" but chose your own location: location is where you have unzipped the v3c drivers (directory only)
this happens about 4 or five times, do the same each time (same directory - it will chose the right drivers), after RSD Lite will show a bunch of info in line #1. When this happens your all set. If it doesnt - re-run drive tools, reboot and start again. (took me 2 tries) - the drivers can be finicky.
Ok, if line #1 in RSD Lite is full of info, point to the shx file for the .02 flash (GATW_01.0F.02) (wherever you unzipped it) (recommend you unzip to the desktop just to make life easy)
    Click Start
When finished (about 15 minutes); You're done!

Open MPT and press F6, click on Communication Tab at top.
    Click Change Modem button
    Next button to begin wizard.
Select Motorola USB Modem, click Next
Check the "Do Not Automatically Detect" checkbox
    Select Motorola CDMA
Find v3cm in the list - finish up the wizard.

This will enable multimedia studio etc.

Now your ready to load ringtones and pictures as you desire.

Hope this is clear, if not give me a shout - hope this helps... I know I'm happier than hell now after doing it!

Did you do the SEEM EDIT to your phone to enable this feature on the phone itself?

With .02, verizon left it enabled. With .03 verizon corrected "their mistake" and disabled it... So you had to Seem Edit Seem 2742, Bytes 7A, Record 1... For Offset 6A, bit 0, "check the box" or "enable" or set =1.

Oh, and even if you had .03 and did this seem edit... It is possible AFTER the update to .04, you will have to redo the seem edit.

And since you are going thru the seem edit process anyway.. Might as well do the Phone ID String Seem Edit also... For the V3C this would be Seem 2827, Record 1, Bytes (h) 22, Offset 0006, "check the boxes" for bits 0-2-3-6 and "uncheck the boxes" for Bits 1-4-5-7. (thanks Raalph253) that way, MPT will always detect your phone as V3CM...

mpt is not free and can be purchaced from brvp.COM software if you feel like giving them your money despite the fact that they make janky *** programs that are buggy as hell.

You then need to update to the latest version 3.28b to get support for newer phones. Just incase you guys have the same problem I did with MPT. If you "aquire it" or buy it "legitimately" over ebay you will get an error with the liveupdate saying "unable to decompress file" if you look at the brvp forums (the developer) they say this is "licensing related" and to call and prove your purchase for a fix.

    Heres what you do instead:

    1. Run LiveUpdate and download the files.
    2. When it asks you to install again, cancel.
    3. Open a command prompt.
    4. Navigate to the following folder in the command prompt: "c:\program files\mobile phoneTools\"
    5. Run the following command: LiveUpdateLauncher.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\all Users\application Data\bvRP Software\mobile PhoneTools\liveUpdate\ListOfUpdate.dat"

    cheers [LOL Up]

    HOW TO FLASH NEW FIRMWARE

since that other thread is sooo long, i dug this up to shorten things up a bit
    is this all still correct?

Backup your phonebook, ringers, and anything else important you want to keep.
    1. Obtain PST-7.2.3
    2. Apply the "patch" PST_uni_patch
    3. Get the E815 driver pack thing
    4. Goto the PST directory and run on MultiflashflexTool.
    5. Select the firmware under flash setup and click Start
    6. Wait a few minutes, When it says "Flash Successful" you can close everything down.
    7. Your phone will say Installing Flash or something like that. Wait a few more minutes.
DO NOT POWER OFF YOUR PHONE.
    8. Once you phone turns off, you can turn it back on

    ************************************************** **************************************************

EDIT: All is good, I have performed the following seem edits and they all work as before.

    Quote:

    Seem 2742 Bytes 90 Record 0001
Offset 003f, bit 6 - on, Enables Call Barring Settings > Security > Restrict Calls > Outgoing Calls
    Offset 007d, bit 5 - on, Changes backlight times to 20, 40, 60, seconds
Offset 000a, bit 7 - on, Enables Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight > Continuous - Dims Backlight instead of shutting off
Offset 007b, bit 3 - off and bit 4 - on, Gives you Vib+Ring option
Offset 007b, bit 2 - off and bit 7 – on, Gives you Moto ring control (instead of low thru high, you get 1 thru 7)
Offset 006a, bit 3 - on, Enables the Menu: Security > Data Connection - it has the 1XRTT Settings and Service Type
Offset 006a, bit 0 - on, Allows Bluetooth or USB file transfer in MPT(Sometimes OBEX)
Offset 000c, bit 1 - on, Enables scroll missed calls when flip closed
Offset 0006, bit 1 - on, Enables "Siren" Alert
Offset 0038, bit 1 - on, Enables "Continental" Alert
Offset 0038, bit 2 - on, Enables "Classic" Alert
Offset 0038, bit 3 - on, Enables "Attention" Alert
Offset 003b, bit 0 - on, Enables "Moonlit Haze" Alert

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ok i've compared cloud556's VZW .04 2742 seem to my VZW .02 my Alltel .03 and .04 as well as Tellus and there is 4 offsets with 1 bit in each that is the same in all but the .04 seem that cloud556 provided. I would do all 4 bits at once and if you get front LCD graphics back then you can back each one out to find the bit or bits that it is.

    Seem 2742 Bytes 90 Record 0001
    Offset 006f Bit 1 - Off
    Offset 007d Bit 2 - Off
    Offset 0083 Bit 2 - On
    Offset 008f Bit 3 - Off

    __________________

    For the main features seem...

If you have a V710, you use 041A as the seem...
If you have an E815 or V3C, you use 2742 as the seem...

(think of it like they "renamed" the file on the E815 and V3C)

From there, the offset/bit combo's are the same...

Bytes 7a vs 90... Long story short... use 7A on ALL the V710, E815 and V3C.. works fine... Using anything above 7A (hex), and you can't read the 041A seem off the V710... When it comes to the E815 and V3C.. the seem is 90 or more bytes.. but since no one found anything significant for the E815 in the bytes beyond 7A... just stick with 7A... [Smilie]

The only seem edit beyond 7A (hex) was for the V3C's Vibe Then Ring... So if you want to do that particular edit you must use 90.

    Clear?

If you in fact flashed to .04p (the one available here not at Verizon. Also, the p will not show in the phone.) it does install OBEX and file transfer no matter what version of firmware you came from. You may have missed rtoledo2002 instructions in the middle of the information provided that I am sure is your problem in MPT.

    Here it is:

    Code:
Open MPT and press F6, click on Communication Tab at top.
    Click Change Modem button
    Next button to begin wizard.
Select Motorola USB Modem, click Next
Check the "Do Not Automatically Detect" checkbox
    Select Motorola CDMA
Find v3cm in the list - finish up the wizard.

This will enable multimedia studio etc.

Now your ready to load ringtones and pictures as you desire.
What I found was that .04p set the right bit to turn on file transfer and OBEX when I installed it but worst case you may need to do the seem edit for that which is ofset 6a bit 0 in seem 2742. Even if you are on .03 this seem edit and setting MPT to v3cm will allow you to transfer files using MPT with the cable

Re-flash to the edition of .04 that's posted here.

Apparently there are two editions, or variations, of .04. One with OBEX that is meant for phones with .02 originally, and one without OBEX that is meant for phones with .03 originally. However, the two editions are really interchangeable in terms of phone hardware. It just appears that VZW doesn't want to give OBEX to anyone who didn't already have it, and didn't want to take OBEX away from those who did.

Which post has the firmware flash?

Quick question: which post actually has the .04p firmware link? I started searching from page 1 but these 77 pages built up really quickly!

    Edit: found the link

Just run the multi-flash/flex exe....no need to have PST folder open.

(P.S. Don't take this as my first post being me not knowing what I am talking about...I have seem edited and flashed my phone numerous times....oh and the below statement isn't directed toward you...just at all those that seem to gripe when people get on and ask a question that was answered 45pages back...like everyone is going to read all 77 pages here.)

OH and Hi Everyone...see I have done reading and searching before posting stupid questions...

I flashed to .04P that is available for download.. and did the seem edit to reenable the outside LCD banner..

While I did lose my GIN games, my ringtones from GIT were still intact on the phone even after the master reset and clear.
I'm really liking this new firmware though, and I'm glad I did it.

I got confused as to what modems.pac file to use with .04P.. can you use the original one with the .04P firmware?
I'm not even sure what file version I'm using.. the one from Mark Venture or the original.. but its working.

I dont have a bluetooth dongle, but I'm going to get a Ambicon like Mark Venture uses.
Do you need to do any seem edits to enable bluetooth transfers? I dont see that listed on Mark's "popular seem edits" page. link
From what I've read, it sounds like I'm good to go now.

Only other seem I might do other than the banner display is to change the identity to the phone to a V3CM so a fresh install of MPT wont require the modified modems.pac file and will also autodetect correctly. Am I correct in saying this?
And are their any disadvantages to changing the phone ID to V3CM?

I would also like to note that as I was playing around with MPT transfering JPEGs of the new 2009 Camaro Concept to my phone, I noticed if you set no wallpaper to the V3C you get the orange outside as the background (and the usual white background on the inside screen).
At least on the .04P w/outside banner seem enabled. I thought that was semi interesting.

I'm currently running the Alltel firmware on my v3c and was wondering if for some crazy reason i wanted to flash to .04p could I do this directly? Or would I have to go to .02 first to maintain working OBEX? Also, does anyone know if the video duration hack works on .04p, I know it doesn't work on the Alltel.
