Rogers GSM Voicemail Retrieval Numbers

To program the appropriate number into your phone, press and hold the "1" key. Your phone should prompt you to save a retrieval number. If it doesn't, your phone is already programmed

Regarding long distance, apparently you're charged if you check your voicemail outside of your home calling area.

If you're far enough (ie. in the Montreal area or BC area), you're probably better off using the local voicemail retrieval number instead. ie. travel to Montreal, call the Montreal retrieval number instead of dialing your own local number. I don't know if this will beat the system or not but it's worth a try I think...

When i changed my number, i had a new VM retrieval # set by Rogers
416-357-3229 ( Toronto, ON)

I called in back in june regarding voicemail #s since I was heading out east for a month, I was basically told "we have no other numbers for voicemail, so you're going to have to pay long distance when retrieving voicemail"

YOU SHOULD NOT TAMPER WITH YOUR VMR#!

The retrieval numbers are setup to co-incite with the deposit number in your HLR Profile.

By switching your VMR# on your own you will NOT save long distance.
You may, however, run into problems with long distance charges applying when you're in your NCA. This can also cause your Voicemail Waiting Indictator (VMI) to get stuck on/off.

Actually the 3rd one down is not a retrieval number.

ok so i have a 519 (kitchener) area code and i'm usually in toronto for the weekend... So if i dial the VM number when I'm in toronto i wont be charged LD right? since its a 416 number??

I'm currently in the Waterloo area, but have a number from the GTA (647). If I want to check my voice mail, should I call a 519 number instead, so as to keep the call local? (Opposite of O_ssie's situation). However, should I be mindful of what Newfie mentioned a year or so back about the voice mail indicator getting stuck? (I have enhanced voice mail). Or does that only apply to actually changing the voice mail number programmed into the SIM; so if I'm just calling a local 519 number to check voice mail, this should be ok?

It doesn't matter which Voicemail number you call, YOU WILL BE Charged Long Distance Since you're outside of your local calling area. Unless you have a long distance add-on included in your voice plan

Airtime charged for retrieving your voicemail.
Answer
When you hold down the “1” key on your wireless phone to retrieve voicemail, your phone will dial the voicemail retrieval number. You are charged local airtime based on your airtime plan as long as you are calling within your local calling area.

The moment you leave your local calling area, voicemail retrieval calls become long distance calls.

Some phone display the voicemail retrieval number which may have an area code which is different from the area code of your local calling area. If this is the case, you are not charged long distance for voicemail retrievals, as long as you are calling from within your local calling area.
