Jen, try either the pound key (#) or the star key (*).

Once the message starts, I think you hit the star key, but I may be wrong.

its just for sprint. with vzw you can dial *86xxx-xxx-xxxx and itll take you straight to vm, but that doesnt work across markets like sprints 11-x... does

    ?????????????????????

The person wants to dial a number and go straight to the person's voicemail WITHOUT the person's phone ringing at all.... What you mention above is just to skip the person's voicemail greeting..... This is not what the OP wants to do...

Besides the 11xxx-xxx-xxxx trick (must be on the Sprint network when making the call I believe), can't you also just log into your own voice mail, and then follow the prompts to send a message?

I used to do the 1-1 trick all the time, but after number portability it does not work as reliably before... If the Sprint subscriber you are calling has ported their number, or their number was assigned off a Nextel switch/prefix (which they are now starting to do with PCS numbers now), even if you dial 1-1 it will still ring before going to voicemail. It will only work if the PCS number you are dialing is off a legacy PCS switch/prefix & not ported.

I think you hit either 1 or * as soon as the first ring kicks in and it goes straight to voice mail. I dont have anybody to test it on at the moment.

you can back door voice mail sprint and nextel customers typically by entering in the area code 1st three digits of number then mail(6245)
    for example
    612 270 1111 would be a sprint number
612 270 6245(mail) would get you into the back door voice mail
