    SDA USB WIRED Headsets?

Okay guys, I'm looking for some new headphones for my phone and until the Stereo Bluetooth is up and running direct from T-Mo, I'm not hacking anything.

I hate the headset that came with the SDA, and when shopping, I've found that most of the 2.5MM headsets don't work properly or don't have a 90 degree bend at the plug.

I've found some Motorola Stereo Wired headphones but they hook up through the USB connection on the bottom.

Anyone tried these? If so, thoughts? How did they work?

I don't wanna spend the 30 bucks and have to take them back.

I'm pretty sure those are proprietary motorola.
I don't think they would work, and besides you don't want them.

They need to use the USB port because someone seems to have forgotten to make a stereo headset jack on the original RAZR design, even though they advertise it as supporting MP3 playback now.
Rather than go through the trouble of re-designing their now infamous handset, moto decided to keep the body and external ports of the RAZR as is, and found a workaround but using the USB port to send audio in stereo.
The result? If you own a RAZR and want to listen to music on it, you have to use this GROSSLY OVERPRICED (for what it is) headset.

So, basically, even if it DID work, I wouldn't recommend dropping $30 on it. Maybe if they were high quality from some fancy audiophile brand name, but not Motorola. A stereo headset should cost $10-$20, with off brand cheap-o ones starting around $5, if they're a standard type (2.5mm is actually considered a standard size).

Nowadays, there are tons of phones that play stereo through the 2.5mm plug, so if you look around you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one that fits your needs.

Well, that's the problem. I'm having a LOT of trouble finding a set that works, and has a 90 degree adapter at the bottom. I can get these on ebay for about 15 bucks shipped.

    Anyone tried them?

simply buy a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female stereo plug adaptor (make sure it's 3 conductors, not 4; plug adaptor for HP H19XX works), then you can use ANY headphones you like

Exactly. If great sound and comfort is truly important to you, then you should just get an adapter and use some solid 3.5mm phones.

This Motorola headset you have pictured is almost certainly NOT going to work with the SDA. I'd be surprised if the SDA was even set up to play music over USB. Either way, if you haven't even tried these Motorola ones, what makes you think you'll like them any more than the ones that came with your SDA?

I say upgrade your ROM already, and just use A2DP. There's no real reason not to. You can always revert back to the T-Mobile ROM if you have to.

You could try the ones from the Moto Rockr. Those are 2.5mm.

    EDIT:
I just stopped working for a second to do a search. Check these out, I think these are kinda cool:

And that's just from a quick search from my office (while I should be working). Just goes to show you that you're not looking hard enough!

hmmm... I kinda like these... wonder how they sound...

Sorry, that's not what I'm looking for.

I know about that option, and I don't like it.

Too bad. I'd really like to know. Thanks for the info though!

    No, nope, no sir.

So, coming from you, this means it will definately work right?

A friend of mine had them on his phone a few months ago and I tried them, they fit my ears perfectly, not like the SDA ones, that's why. Unfortunately, we don't have classes together anymore so I'm not in contact with him.

No, nope, no sir. If you read the thread, I said I'm not doing that. At least READ the thread and see what options are wanted or not.

I'll see if I can find a set to try out.

I've searched tons, and found TONS, and bought 3 different sets now, and none of them worked properly. Hence the reason I want to ensure a set works properly before I buy them again, especially online. I'm tired of "Buy/Return" tactics.

Anyone have a set of these they've tried?

I've tried the USB headphones included with the RAZR to no avail. That doesn't mean it's impossible for someone to write software to pipe the audio through the usb port. If you can find it, let me know.

Yeah, and don't upgrade your ROM. It's really hard to do, and very scary, and it can't be reversed! EVER!

Worst of all, it will make your SDA so much more enjoyable and feature-rich. And that would suck!

BTW Red, I was also skeptical about updating my ROM, mostly because I wasn't sure I wanted to keep the SDA and I was afraid if I sold it I wouldn't be able to put the T-mo ROM back on.
However, after being very annoyed by a bug pairing with a GPS, someone mentioned that the newer ROM handles this better, so I had to try it.
I gotta say, I didn't know how much better this thing would be. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience, and took less than 10min, including downloading the needed files. The thing runs better now and picks up a signal faster in fringe areas!

Anyway, do what you like, but there's not reason to be scared of it.

I'm not scared of it at all. My wife works for T-Mobile and I happen to hang out with a lot of her friends from work. We are always looking at eachother's phones and after our last time out, one of the guys had a MDA with a different rom on it. One of the managers called in and had his warranty voided.

    No thanks.

I'm patient, and happy with it the way it is for now. I can wait.

That looks like the same set I got for my wife's v360, they don't work on mine. Well, it works out of ONE earpiece.
