Saving sms text messages from V3c to your comp

Has anyone been able to successfully back up their inbox or sent folder into their comp? I've searched here, and the 2 suggestions that I found was to go with MPT or with bitpim.

with bitpim, i get my phone detected just fine, but i can't get any sms info out of it. with mpt, which i already use to transfer pics and stuff in and out of phone, i only get the first txt message in the inbox and the first one in the sent folder, and that's all. after that it disconnects the connection.
I have about 1,000 messages in each folder.

any suggestions on how to go about?

Do you have any SMS msg's within the inbox or outbox? MPT will not pull them down. Not sure what BVRP has done to cope with them, but 3.28 hosed as you described.

I thought an SMS message was a text message. Am I missing something?

Didn't I read the other day that people were not able to download their text messages if there were also MMS messages? And there was also some discussion about whether MPT could download text messages if they had those text smilie-type pics in them (what are those called? EMS pics or somesuch?).

From me, yes, with MPT 3.28.

EMS, yes. And I wasn't sure, but wouldn't be surprised if MPT couldn't work with it.

If I remember correctly (I haven't pulled my SMS msg's off with MPT for a while), MPT 4.xxx would place the text of MMS where an MMS msg would be, not pulling the pic/vid/etc off the phone, but not halting the download.
