So I just updated my HP laptop by removing the HP bluetooth software and installing the software that comes with SP2. Now the computer no longer lets me do OBEX file transfer...when I list services available on my phone it only lists Dial-Up Networking! Does anyone know what is going on? I am pretty sure I can get the old HP software back which worked but I always prefer to use the Microsoft built-in stuff.
I'll assume your phone has either the Verizon .02 firmware, the LEAKED .04P, or you've flahsed with the Alltel firmware... (other wise your phone doesn't have BT OBEX File Transfer Support...
Information about configuring and using the BASIC Bluetooth support built into XP SP2 can be found in... MS KB Article ID : 883259 They support PAN, DUN, Bluetooth Printing, and "Send/Receive" File Transfers... It also talks about using the BT File Trasfer Wizard... (Too bad you have to start it from command line, if you want an ICON, you have to make it yourself!)
NOTE: Receiving files TO THE PC requires the sending device support Object Push (aka OPP) which the Verizon V3C and E815 do NOT support!
Thanks for the link to the KB article. It wasn't much help though since it make no mention of OBEX. Sigh....I guess I am going to go back to the HP software. What's the story on the leaked .04p? I put .02 on my v3c with the intention of going to the store and get it flashed to .04p...but it sounds like you are saying that won't work?

the MS BT drivers don't really support OBEX per sey...
the File Send support will allow you to transfer files FROM the PC to the Phone...
The File Receive support will allow you to tranfser files From the PHONE to the PC... HOWEVER this phase requires the phone to support BT OBject PUSH... as the MS drivers sit there "listening.."
So, I'm not sure if tis technically Bluetooth OBEX File Transers or not...
As for the leaked .04P firmware (available at http://www.humpa.com/vzw )... unlike the store version of .04, the "leaked" copy has Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers enabled.. even if you had .03... There are reports of some stores upgrading from .02, to .03 (removes OBEX), then finally a .04 which does NOT change the OBEX FT Support.... i.e. if the Store does upgrade you from .02, to .03, then to .04, you won't have Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers... BUT if you flash at home with the LEAKED .04P, previous firmware version doesn't matter... you'll have Bluetooth OBEX FT's...
we are NOT sure where this leaked .04P came from... there was a LONG thread discussing the .04 firmware, and someone posted it... it is proven to restore Bluetooth OBEX FT's even if you have .03 firmware on the phone...

You can obviously transfer files in both directions with Obex, although I don't think that's what you were saying (I am not familiar with the variety in the XP SP2 stack).

that is why I said the MS BT Drivers didn't support obex per sey (did I spell that right?)
THe MS stack doesn't give you my bluetooth places.. and only allows the PC to initiate the SEND... which the phone can receive...
BUT unlike Bluetooth OBEX FT's with Widcomm's My Bluetooth Places, or BlueSoliel's drivers... the MS stack sits there waiting to RECEIVE and requires the PHONE To send the file over... (i.e. requires the phone to have Object Push..)

Correct.. the Alltel V3C firmware does support OPP... but with other ramifications...

You can't update the PRL doing a *228 once the Alltel flash is there...
And there was some kind of funny issue surrounding the Tetris app??
Also since it uses the Moto UI, its easy for the verizon stores to see that you've flashed it on your own... and they won't support problems, or the phone, plus you void the warranty...
Yeah, I know, seem edits void the warranty too.. (basically anything not considered "normal use" voids it...) but most can not be detected by the stores... (well, the banner seems can be..)

I don't know about this one. I never run the VZW software on my CDMA phones, but *228 always takes me right to "Welcome to Verizon Wireless over the air programming....this call is airtime free..."

Is verizon your wireless carrier?
In the verizon/moto section... those who flashed their V3C with the Alltel firmware are having to load the PRL via PST... i.e. someone reads the PRL from their phone with Verizon firmware into PST, and posts the file in the forum.. Alltel v3C users, then upload to their phone via PST... (its still in the FAQ on the Wiki, so if they found away around this, they haven't updated the Wiki yet...)
