By comparison the original V3 and V3i had 256K colors, with 176 x 220 pixels. Same colors less pixels. I think you are confusing pixels with colors here. Not the same thing. The V3xx and Maxx have 256k colors with 240x 320 pixels. Almost twice as many pixels hence a higher defination screen.

the seller swears it will work with cingular but it doesnt list the 850 needed for cingular it list umts/900/1800/1900
and I cant get any signal with it, however the cingular office told me that little Rock, Arkansas has a newer sim card (3g) is this what I need?
please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Little Rock only has the 850mhz band then your phone will not work. I don't believe the sim card has anything to do with your issue and in any event I would never buy a phone in the usa that did not support the 850mhz band. Your eBay seller is not to bright and probably doesn't care too much about the customer.

well yes, but since cingys network is capable of 3.6, if you're 1.8 phone won't get above half, well half of 3.6 is still faster than half of 1.8.
What are you talking about. Cingy will limit download capabilities to much less than theorteical 3.6Mb.
The most you can get now is between 700Kb - 1Mb.
It does not matter what the phone can suppoort if the network is tweaked to limit the throughput.
Even if you had a 10Mb phone you'd still be getting 800kb.
here wher I live (close to Little Rock) cingular works on 850/1900
the phone supports 1900 but not the 850.
so will it work, I was thinking maybe something in the phone would not reconize the older Sim card. and it may need the new 3g card? any ideas?
I stand to be corrected but aren't isn't V3xx advertised on Ebay only triband & will not operate on the Cingulars 3G network because they use a different frequency?

The European v3xx will not work with GSM850 at the moment.
If you got a v3x, that will never work with GSM850 or american 3G.
ok, anyone know how to destinguish between the European v3x and the american version that will work?
my v3x has the 2.0 megapixal camera on the outside and what appears to be another camera on the inside in the center hinge.
