Hello, i have recently bought a FOMA DoCoMo Panasonic P900iV and am looking into ways of making it work in the United States. It is a W-CDMA phone, so it will not work with any GSM service provider. Is there a way to convert W-CDMA to standard CDMA so it can be hooked up with a service like Verizon, Alltel, or Sprint? I don't know a tremendous amount about cell phones and really want this phone to be up and running in the states, thank you.
Not possible at all. Sorry.
That's what i thought ... how about this, the DoCoMo Panasonic P900iV phone can use somehting called "World Wing" which is international roaming on which it uses GSM signals its here on this .pdf file (the english version of the manual for the P900iV) http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/b...V_E_BC_All.pdf read through pages 50-53 it can utilize the World Wing tech so would it be possible to rewrite the firm ware so that it only sees the GSM service? Or am i completely wrong? lol

Thanks of your help
you can get them off ebay pretty easily theres 3-4 major sellers of these and even though it is a W-CDMA phone if you get a green UIM card from DoCoMo and place it in the phone you can internationally roam on GSM networks what i wanna know is that is it possible to play with the firmware or software of the phone to get it to pick up GSM signals? its a dual band phone thanks
foma phones only work in japan. and its unlockable
your kinda out of luck
FOMA and MOVA is just a branch of DoCoMo type phones they dont relate to a certian service there just different style cell phones and my point was that you can internationally roam with FOMA phones like the P900i series i posted a link of the entire .pdf P900iV manual and under the UIM pages it states that you can use that phone to internationally roam on GSM networks around the world so its a dual to quad band type phone i recently talked to cingular (since on the DoCoMo website you can roam on their 3g towers) and they staed that yes it was possible to change over the band so thatit can only pick up GSM signals and that i should contact panasonic to get it changed over ... upon changing it over just place in a cingular/ATT SIM card and you chould get service through them ... i spoke to a supervisor tech support agent so all i need to do is contact panasonic or get somone to flash or change the firmware so that it wont try to pick up W-CDMA and just pick up GSM signals
Honestly, I think you're fighting a losing battle. I highly doubt you'll ever get it working. Most likely it's locked, and its notoriously hard to get Japanese phones unlocked. Secondly, I have seen no mention of 1900mhz GSM on the phone, so chances are, it isn't compatible with the networks here.
Also, I wouldn't trust ANYTHING cingular tells you. Do you honestly think the person you were talking to has any knowledge about this phone?
