    Progressively bad service connections

I stayed with NextHell for as long as I could stomach thier progressively bad service in my area. Thier techy CS could not help with call congestion and poor signal strength. They advised there were no upgrades planned for my area...so I dumped them !! Went to Sprint and got a new phone for free and no costs to switch over. Service with Sprint has been far superior !

The single biggest reason I left Nextel was because there was no service in the UP of Michigan. Service was getting worse by my house, but that really wasn't the deciding factor.

    reason to come back

Nextel works off of seperate towwers from the rest of the cell phone group but they now offer a phone that uses both nextel and everyone else's towers can't remember the model but that will fix the coverage problem because standard nextel phones work off a diff technology then cell phones from very other company

This post makes absolutely no sense. Every carrier has their own base stations and channels. Sounds like you are regurgitating bad information you overheard.

    1) a period wouldn't kill you.

    2) I see no problem with the stock price. ATM it's $21.87/share. Which is decent, but it's great for Legacy Nextel stock owners like myself because we got a split. Not to mention I bought at $20.03 so I'm doing pretty well.

Same here. I was thinking about getting a new i880 after not only the inside screen turned upside down, but both screens stopped lighting up. Then I remembered how bad the service had gotten too. So after 6 years I left and they didn't even care. I have an iphone now, still yet to drop a call.

Did you know that Nextel invented the first ring back tone?

"Please hold while the Nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located."

    Anyway,
I have deserted Nextel several times (over to Sprint) only to end up back with them.
I now have the ic902 but think I am going to back to the straight IDEN network.

Yea, it's cool to have TV, Radio, fast web access and rock solid text messaging for only 10.00 a month. I don't however use many text messages and I have a hard time watching television (or anything else) on a 2" screen!

Nextel phones are not (other than the i880) or were not meant or designed to be fashion pieces. Most are hard working, durable phones.

All just my opinion but I think Nextel got into trouble because:

    1. They oversold or were too successful. The voice side of things uses TDMA or Time Division Multiple Access which is the digital technology that AT&T and Cingular (when they were competitors) scrapped to transform over to GSM. They transformed over for more capacity.
    2. Boost Mobile. It is said that Boost Mobile was too successful and tipped the IDEN capacity over the edge. For a lousy buck a day users can chirp all they want thus using more of the limited capacity. You can only push 2 inches of water through a 2 inch pipe!
    3. Sprint. I really think that Sprint really dropped the ball at the beginning of the merger and didn't commit to the IDEN network like they are now. It could be too little too late as Nextel customers abandoned ship buy the 100's of thousands. Nextel was to begin rolling out WIDEN which was the high speed internet and data access for IDEN handsets. It is rumored that Sprint put the stop to it. It is also rumored that Gary Forsee's job is on the line.

I guess I got off topic but I think that if you need rock solid, fast 2-way walkie talkie then Nextel is the only way to go. If you don't need it then switch to Sprint penalty free.

Nextel never once let me down - I went into it knowing what coverage was available and where as well as what the service was like.

But for me - it was just having a nice PDA phone. The day Nextel comes out with a PDA phone that's not a Blackberry (and no, the i930 does not count), I'll be back in a minute...

I left Nextel for not to mention again reasons, last time, but it was only for a very short time and I am back probably for good this time.

I left Nextel a total of 3 times now and came back each time because I found out the grass was not greener on the other sides.

I have been through all the carriers now and Nextel and the iDEN network still remain the best (for my use and locations) along with the DC which I love. Not to mention that Nextel with the Motorola iDEN cell phones are the best built out there, the i880 being the best for features/functions and the i580 the best built cell phone, period.

BTW, I never had to pay an ETF, either!

I left for a couple of reasons, mind you, it was a while ago. Lack of phone choices, and all of my friends left Nextel, leaving me with no one to DC. The decision to leave was pretty obvious.

Well I'm still here but i'm seriously thinking of jumpin ship. Iden phone selections have gone downhill over the last two years and Service has been horribile over the last few months. I think I used a total of 45 mins of DC last month. I love my Ptt but nobody has it anymore. Sprint has Ruined Nextel and the only way I'm staying with Sprint is if they offer me No brainer deal.
