Is this all the lighting that the 8910's keypad gets?

It looks fantastic, but I don't really know how usable it would be.

Yes, 8910 and 8910i have no conventional backlight due to the titanium casing.

Don't worry: you can get used to it.

Now that is poor thinking on Nokia's part. Why couldn't they just have made the numerals clear so the light shines through?

It looks to me like you'd be able to do fine with all of the number buttons since it looks like the light clearly defines where each button is in relation to one another. As for the menu buttons, they may be less lit, but I have those pretty much memorized on my 8290

The front is made of titanium, not of plastic - light cannot shine through! Clear keys or transparent areas in the front wouldn't look that nice...

See how those lights are showing through in the picture above? Why not make the numerals the same material?

There is no material between the keys - the LEDs shine throuh the keymat.
Do you know covers for the 6610? The front of the 8910 is similar: a large hole for the menu an navigation keys and four horizonal ones for the four rows of the numeral keys.

Titanium is a "difficult" material - a front with transparent numerals would be at least four times as expensive...

omg, I love this phone now.
I love it how it wont give blinding light when in the dark...

its useful when lets say, you are in the theatre and you need to send a very important SMS..... or even just to check the time

so embrassing last time when someone from my back complained to me.....and since that I got myself a keypad that blocks most of the light....

I still love it, but it seems like it would be a real PIA to SMS at night

Well I dunno...I never look at the keys when I text....so I dont think it matters whether they're lit or not
