Unhappy HELP PLEASE--Suddenly lost volume when on calls

OK, so yesterday my MDA worked fine. I was ableto hear peopleclearly when on a call. This morning, all of a sudden, any and all calls sound very faint and echoed. I checked my soundsetting, phone setting etc...and nothing has changed that I can tell...yet when I make or receive a call today, I can barely hear the ringing, and the person on the other end sounds faint and sometimes echoed.
The only thing that happened that I know of was that last night I opened a soda that had an explosion...but only a drop or 2 got on the MDA...and that was on the screen. There is no water damage that I can see.

Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone offer assistance? I am currently running the Tmo 2.26rom, and have a buttload of apps, games and more, but still have quite a bit of space left on both main memory and Storage. I have tried resets also, and am about to do a hard reset...which hopefully will work...but in the meantime (in case the hard reset fails) does anyone have any suggestions?

    **update**
A hard reset did not fix the issue...HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!
The speakerphone is nice and loud and clear, it seems to be the private speaker...any ideas??

As always, thank you in advance for your time and effort to help me out.

Can anyone please help me? The sound is fine as speakerphone or headphones, but in normal talk mode I can barely hear a thing. Could that speaker somehow have blown?? What would cause that??
    Help please.

I have never had good volume on any t-mobile product. I had the nokia 3650 before. I think the MDA Is a bit better but I often have to turn on Speakerphone still to hear anything...

To clarify, my volume issues were out of the box (if it even is an issue) and not from a ROM update. I want one device in my pocket to play nintendo games, listen to the radio, listen to mp3s, get IM, do email, surf the net, GPS maps, text, keep appointmens and lists, edit spreadsheets/documents, provide inet to a laptop, and send/receive phone calls. The MDA can do all that in 5 ounces. And TMO has the best voice/data plans So I accept the fact that while it does all of those things, it isn't the best at ANY of them. But I don't like lugging around an ipod, pda, phone, gameboy, and portable gps unit. Makes my pockets bulge.

Ok, thank you everyone for your input, but I am looking more specifically for an iea of whether my speaker somehow got blown, or any other things that would cause a sudden death to the phone speaker. I always had very good sound quality until this weekend when it just died. Period. It wasn't badout of the box, nothing like that. It was goodone day, I went to bed and the next day it was non-existant. I can hear clearly using speakerphone or using my headset, it is the "normal" speaker that I cannot seem to get volume from.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me to try so that I can use my phone in a "normal manner" without having to rely on headesets or speakerphones?? I have no complaints about the sound in any other manner. I always had great sound...and wouldn't have any complaints if my sound hadn't suddenly gone M.I.A

Again I ask, could the couple of drops of soda spray have caused this? I am not noticing any water damage, and it was only a couple drops on the screen when the soda exploded...but it seems that my sound died after that. Is their any tricks to fix this?

A blown speaker would not produce a echo. Blown speakers tend to buzz or sound distorted. Have you tried headphones? Speaker phone is nice and loud and clear, so it sounds like the speaker is fine. The problem seems to be the volume of sound the phone is sending to the speaker. Have you tried the volume controll buttons in both up and down directions?

It is possible that one drop of soda that you didn't see got inside the phone. Possibly blowing out the openings of the phone would help. But just possibly. Preferably try compressed air from a can and around the volume buttons, speaker, and headphone jack.

Did you upgrade to a new ROM? Try an older ROM.

    Hope something in there helps.

    Thank you Phat!!
I have not tried using compressed air, I willdo that. I have played with volume controls several times, and yes it does have the 2.26 rom in it. The headphones are loud, speakerphone is loud, so perhaps as you said, blowing out various openings may help. I'll try that first. Thank you for your help, and if you can think of anything else to try, I'd sure appreciate it.

Again thank you for your time and suggestions.

If you think the warranty is already void, then open it and see if you can see the sticky soda spill.

Well I called Tmo yesterday and they overnighted me an MDA. I will probably just do the exchange. Thank you Phat for your time. Perhaps (if you know) you can tell me your opinion on the 1.08 rom compared/contrasted to the 2.26. The new MDA has the 1.08, my phone with the bad speaker had 2.26. I m debating on re-upgrading. When I did, at first I hated 2.26, then got used to it. In youropinion, which one is more stable, faster, uses less space and/or resources, etc...??
