You do have applications. There is the MOD (Vcast Music) player, the VOD (Vcast music) software, along with the hidden mp3 player (only available on firmware V01 but still resides in memory regardless), hidden media player, mobile IM, music sync tool, and a few others.

If you want to use the hidden mp3 player and have firmware V03 (you can check by entering #4357*4357), you will need to downgrade to firmware V01. Otherwise, just put your mp3s in the my_music directory on your card.

Ok I can help here!!! As a high school student I know this, because other wise I would get my phone taken away all the time lol. Look everytime you use the music player when you are done playing your music, before you close it out turn the volume all the way down. NOW you can close out the player. If for some reason, it later goes off in your pocket it will play muted no matter what. Try it yourself. Hope I could help.

All of these suggestions are a work around for a problem that was caused by the people who wrote the firmware. The simplest thing to do is to bring this problem to the attention of the ones who write the firmware. So how do we do this? Did a person working for Verizon write the last firmware update? Who do we need to contact and how? If there is a V04 in the works then it should be easy to correct if the firmware writer only recognizes that there was a problem with the last firmware revision. Listen up firmware writer, when we put the vx 8300 in manner mode that means we don't want the ringer to make noise and we certainly don't want the music player to make noise if we accidentally press one button. Manner mode = No Noise from Phone except for the vibrating ringer.

I agree, the firmware writers should be made aware!
Is it possible to add FAVORITES in the vx8300's browser? Every time I try I get "HTTP Error: 404 Not Found".

I was successful right off the bat. Got tired of telling myself that I am going to make the 30 trek to Verizon just to upgrade the firmware.

Glad I had downloaded the files a couple of months ago and kept them.

Yeah, that's my link. There is also a link to a thread over at mobile-files.com that I uploaded to. Unlike rapidshare, it won't expire.

Okay I followed all of the instructions but when I open LGDownload the "Upgrade Download Start" button is greyed out and I can't click it. I know people have had this problem before and the fix has been to switch COM ports but when I go into the device manager it doesn't let me do that. It says my LG phone is using COM4 but if I go into the port settings in LGDownload the only thing I can check is COM1 (and I noticed that in the screenshot in the instructions the LGDownload is connected to COM4). Any ideas? I'm using Windows ME.

There is so much great, helpful information on this website. I am still confused on one thing. I am trying to play MP3's (from my computer) on my LG8300, Version 3, with a 1GB micro-sd card. I have no problem transferring the songs from my computer to the micro-sd card. Now, to play them on the phone, based on the information above, do I need to downgrade to get firmware V01 AND put the mp3's in the my-music directory, or will either/or work? I currently have V03 and the mp3's are saved on the card in a folder I made up myself called my_mp3. Is version 01 a necessity, or to play the songs on Version 3, can I just put the songs in another folder? Thank you very much.

Read what I posted again. On V03 they go in the my_music directory on the card.

I would make sure that you don't have another program running that is using com1 like vcast if you have it? I had to temporarily disable one of my com ports to get the download to work. I would also try to reboot computer after making your com1 changes from device manager.
