Would anyone happen to know why when I try to do the firmware upgrade, the 'Upgrade Download Start' button stays greyed out, and in the bottom of the right pane it just repeatedly says: "connecting.... (then) ....DIAG_NV_READ_F:error time over.... (then) .....Not connecting at 38.4 baud rate" (then repeats message again & again)??
I know I'm getting connection through COM1 because I can use EVDO DUN when it's plugged in like this through the same COM1 as LGdownload is set to. And If I unplug phone from USB, LGdownload just gives the error "Can't open PC serial port. - COM1" so I know LGdownload is detecting something. I can properly set the .dll file, and the path on the .bin file, but since I can get LGdownload to connect to the phone, the Upgrade button just stays greyed out.
Any ideas on how to diagnose why I can't get it to work?
1. There is a menu option to pick the com ports...see what is checked and try unchecking com1.
2. Start the lgdownloader with the phone unplugged. Then plug the phone in after lgdownloader starts.
Go into your control panel and device manager and make sure nothing is assigned to com1 and then the downloader will work for you. If something is assigned to com1 then assign that devise to something else like com9.
Thanks. Yeah, my LG was listed under modems on COM1, and it was a serial port on COM1 as well, so once I disabled the LG modem, the LGdownload picked up the serial COM1 just fine. Upgrade to v02 was a breeze after that.

Personal messages asking where to get LGDownload or QPST are immediately deleted, so don't bother. They aren't hard to find, search google and mobile-files.com.

I think I did something wrong. Followed instructions; got an error message right after the SPC input box popped up. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the error. I now have a phone that won't recognize; and has the ol' "service required" notice on the front. Black inside.
OK, I unplugged the phone, disconnected battery, and restarted the phone. Works fine now... I am confused though. When I try to redo the process, I get an error on the DLL file. (VO2)
Specifically,
- Can't load DLLfile path to the memory....
- check the DLL file path to load the memory on the status bar.
- If it was printed Unknown Model in the Model Name, select directly DLL file path.
any ideas?

Hello there. i just got this phone for my girl friend. and i have been trying to get some music into her phone.
and i am using the music essentials kit and i cant getmy WMP to even reconize the VX8300 at all. the phone shows that it is connected but wmp doesnt see it . i have tried over and over again to get it to work. i have even tried on a different pc to see if it was that pc. that wasnt it.
so i tried the firmware up grade you posted.
work great sept for the *228 1 it fails to work every time. so right now i am reverting back to FW01 as i type this. i would like to get this phone to except music from my pc. since i have a lot of her stlye of music on it. and it did take bout 14 minutes to finish the update. i just hope i didnt mess her phone up, since i talked her into getting this phone . since her vx3300 was a POS... beside this 8300 can take pics and sopposed to play music? which i have yet to hear from it.
this is very if you know what i mean
PS i dont have a card for it. will that make a difference in it playing or recieving music via pc ??

When you were trying to use WMP were you using 10 when i started out i was using WMP 11 and it was a headache for me i never did get it to work so i reverted back to WMP 10 and i had success
yes i do have 10. but it still doesnt work at all. i get the same thing over and over again. media player doesnt recongnize the device. i can hit F5 to synce and it still wont see anything of the phone. beside i have tried the *228 and it keeps telling me to call costumer service for help. it did this after the firmware update to 02 and then when i switch back to 01. i am not sure of as why it is doing that, also it is now stuck in romming and i cant get it out of it.
it didnt roam till after i did the 02. so thats why i undid the 02 and went back to the 01 firmware.
well as for the *228 i had to call Verizon support. they had me dail the *228 but i had to hit the #2 this time and now it did the update. so now it doesnt roam anymore. but back to the WMP 10 it still wont work, even tho on the phone it does say connected.but WMP10 wont connect to the phone at all. any other things to try?

If you don't have a memory card, just get one, honestly. What are you going to use, the 16 MB of available memory for 3 songs for her? Get the card and a reader and save yourself the headache. And i would recommend updating to V02 again and doing *228 option 2, that'll fix the problem . don't give it up, it's a great phone...

When I first bought thie LG8300 I felt ripped off being that my mp3's would not play through the Vcast music player. Now that it can, showing all the tag info, it is a much beter phone. Thanks again!!
I was hoping for album art to work too, but I will settle for all the other tags.
i will try the update once again and then the *228 op 2 to get it updated. what kind of card goes into this phone? i have a card reader in my other pc, i have 3: 1 for gaming on the 2nd one is for a game server and the 3rd is for everything else, such as emails IM and other stuff.inwhich i built the other 2 the email one i only add about 1500 to it, but it is an old pc. but as for this topic/post it is a great info to follow and to do. it should be a Sticky!! very good info indead...
i did find this card and it has a adapter with it 1Gig card
