GD 87/88: Call Display Wierdness and other ????

    Hi there,

Just got an GD88!! Seems, ok, but there's something I don't understand. In your phone book, you can set your ringtones and lcd colour for a contact, as well as email, multiple phone numbers, groups, etc., but in the Phone Book Menu, there's something called Alert Profile, which will allow you to choose precisely Ring Tone, Picture and LCD colour when a contact calls you. This can be set for individual contacts or groups, and supercedes that of what's saved with the contact...

Soooo...why bother with the info that gets saved with the contact when it doesn't get used? (it terms of the Call Display)

The other thing i find annoying is that if you use a picture for the Call Display, the phone seems to make a thumbnail of it, and save it in the Phonebook folder.

And if you're not careful renaming your files, you end up with lots of 000000000.jpgs!

Anyways, last question, is what does Voice Command Permissions (Enable/Disable) do? I can't see the difference when enabling or disabling...

    Thanks for tips,
    Ken

Yes, thumbnails....Your not the first to complain.

Voicecommand enable- when yes, then the mobile will dial right after the voicecommand is recognized, when disabled, it will bring it up on the display but you must still press send.

Alert profiles let you set for groups, that is the biggest advantage to it, otherwise I would do it per contact.

Is the time set in your mobile? If not, then all pictures get named all zeros, otherwise it is the date time stamp of the pic.

    Thanks Lost Rebel!

I figured out what Voice Dialling Enabling was...and thanks for the tip of setting the date of the phone to get rid of the 00000000000.jpg's!

I still don't understand the Alert Profiles though, per each contact - why ask you for that information for the contact in the "regular" menu if it will just be superceded by the Alert Profile options? Not sure if I'm being clear here...

    Regards,
    Ken

    Hi Everyone!
    I'm new to this forum.

I just got my GD88 and I am learning more and more about it.

I noticed this thread and had another question.

In regards to the Call Display feature, is there anything we can do to make the picture regular size instead of a thumbnail?

Thank you for your kind attention.

Theres no way at the moment to make the thumbnails full screen, maybe a fw update may correct this in the future

    Oh that really sux.

Isn't the point of having picture call display is to show the caller's picture (full screen)? I guess we all have to squint for now huh?

I have to say even though the pic is small, i never look at the name now. I look at the pic instead. Im am sure this will be a feature they improve in the upcoming phones...purely for customer satisfaction.

In japan there phones have two colour screens one on the inside and one on the outside, so when they get a call the pic is on the outside small colour screen.
Now what the software engineers have done is taken that software that shows the small pic and placed it into the GD87, this is why the pic is small.

I even got a full size picture loaded to the Phonebook folder, but when the incoming call comes, it still renders the microminiture size!!. I may play with some different sizes and see if I can get it a little bigger but I do not hold out much hope!
