Samsung R810 on ST website

Just thought I'd share with everyone that ST has put up a tutorial/fact sheet on the R810. Looks like it is real after all!

I think a lot of people will switch over when this comes out. I was spending dang near $80/month to have my Delve (same phone) on US Cellular.

Whoa...so it's like an updated Delve? I just checked the review, and it's supposed to have solid sound quality and a fairly low SAR level. I assume it has a headset jack (for calls) too. I wouldn't care about the extra features (I'd be getting the $30 plan), but it sounds like a solid phone!

From what I can tell, it is very similar to the Delve. The Delve is model R800 and the Finesse is R810. Looking at pics/video of the two phones, they seem to include the same features, run the same OS, with the main difference being different hard buttons and a slightly different housing.

There has been some conjecture over whether they will offer the plans at the same price on this non-Thanksgiving day gobbler.

Sorry, what do you mean about offering (what?) plans at the same price?

Do you mean like they might charge more for the same plans on that phone?

He is referring to the Samsung Finesse/R810c being a smartphone data hog with its faster evdo web speeds consuming more bandwidth relative to the other existing ST regular phones that use the slower (by four times or more) 1xrtt web standard.

There is some speculation that there may be a higher pricepoint ST smartphone plan rate coming to compensate for the bigger (and potentially more expensive to foot) unlimited data bill for the Finesse (and possibly other future ST smartphones).

If it does, in a related situation, might possibly give incentive to fellow Verizon reseller and competitor Page Plus footing on them maybe offering an unlimited plan as their system is LOADED with people with smartphones stuck with a 20-50 meg cap (with a 60 cents a meg overage charge) . As well as other workarounds for getting data (wifi,Opera, etc) . None of which beat having an unlimited data plan to begin with.

The PPC and even some ST hofoes have been clamoring for an unlimited data plan on that side of the forums.

We will see if everybody, ST users and PPC users get their Christmas/Holiday wishes this year or not.

Look for the thread search function, top right on the list of threads page , type in r810. You will find the other two threads on this phone. There is speculation they will not be able to afford to sell the two current plans for use with this phone at the same price. They think the r810 itself could be very expensive. Hopefully all will be answered soon.

There is also a link to the USER MANUAL underneath the Tutorials.

I'm hoping the choice of phones will expand shortly.

After learning the shortcomings of the R451 I'm hoping for a Rogue / 960

(wishful thinking)

The Samsung R810 can be found referenced thru the Straight Talk activation page. Pick either of the three activation choices and when it then asks for your phones Serial Number, click on the word "help" off to the right. Then click on the picture of the R810 (you may have to temperarly allow popups). You will be taken to the Tutorials page for finding the SN.

This appears to have a decent browser I've looked at a couple of youtube reviews by real users who were happy with it. Not the best phone ever made but a huge step up from whats available for ST right now.

The spec sheet says supports 'Touchwiz Widgets", I believe thats part of an SDK for this series of phones.

From having used a Delve, the touchwiz widgets aren't really all that amazing. There are facebook/myspace widgets which simply open the browser and direct it to the mobile versions of those site. There is a shortcut to the music player. All they really do is save 1...maybe 2...button pushes. Maybe not even that if you leave the widget bar closed. Of course, when I had my Delve, I was stuck with the factory widgets. It would have been nice to be able to get some 3rd party stuff in there. So, it looks like this might impress me now.

The browser is nice. It is full HTML. No flash support though. You can watch mobile youtube video because they are converted to .3gp though.

All in all, I liked my delve fairly well. The one actual complaint I had was battery life.

If they have these out before Christmas it'll be a big hit. Hey a couple a buttons saved and an decent html browser? Not bad. It looks like there are a lot of those shortcuts available now and it may not be difficult to make them either.
