Hey my brother just got a LG VX5200 and I would like to know how I can get MP3 ringtones on to his phone. I don't have nor do I want to buy a data cable. I tried sending edited mp3's to his vzwpix.com address and he got the sound file but he could not set any of the sounds as ringtones.
I've been trying to track that down myself. So far the response from LG and Verizon is the VX5200 will not let you do that. That means of course you're stuck with paying through Verizon or someone that supports Verizon and still not get the one you want.
I think until some of the sync software companies test with this phone or someone stumbles on a way to do it we're stuck for the moment.
But by default the phone doesn't have a way to do it. It's not hard to do, they did it on the 3300, 6100, which some friends and neighbors has. So either they want you to pay or the developers left out the code for some reason. LG blames it on the providers not requesting that feature and the providers blame LG for not making it available.
Whatever it is really we'll either have to wait to see. If I do come up with something I'll post it as I'm on several forums.
I just got the phone and haven't had a chance to try anything and not familiar with bitpm so bare with me.
I did read serveral post about having problems with bitpm on the 5200. What phone did you select on the software? Any special notes on getting it to work? Which cable and from where? Just seeing if there is a specific combination/s that work.

I think i used QPST to load the ringtone up on her phone. Other then that i used pretty much the basic setup. Both the cable i got on ebay and from verizon work, and i used the standard drivers you get from the LG website

your only option would be to go out and get a data cable. they are really cheap and work well. vzw has their system set up so you can't just send yourself ringtones from anywhere you want.
i bought a data cable from ecitywireless. good shipping and the cable is really great. i did a buy now, easier than bidding, plus it came to 10 or 11 bucks rather than 15 for that cable.
i don't know what is up with the box in the middle of the cable. i thought that it had something to do with changing the usb connection from the computer into a serial connection to the phone. the cable that i purchased is a straight cable without the box.
Sending yourself ringtones through vzw doesn't work btw because the VX5200 doesn't let you set sounds are ringtones. That's why I'm resorting to a data cable and software. I'll be buying one this week probably. Thanks
Great, thanks. What phone did you pick in BitPim settings? Did you try anything else, phonebook, wallpaper, etc..?
And, along with that, what drivers did you use? All I have is the USB-To-Serial driver for the cable. I can't find LG drivers anywhere--do I need them?

You dont need any, the cable is the only thing you need drivers for, it will create a COM port, and the phone is connected via a serial connection, so you dont need any drivers..
