I've had this phone since last Wed. and so far I've had mixed results
I'm using the newest drivers from the MOTODEV site:2.7.6
PST: Using v7.2.5 -- am able to connect right out of the box but limited in what I can do. I can read the phonebook, but when I try and create a new rff file like I've done with other moto's to make a new web session and setup my wap, it won't read or write it to the phone, the progress bar just stays at 0%
The other thing I've noticed is that the setup menu (#0738870) is different than the RAZR/KRAZR -- there is no web sessions option which could have something to do with why I'm having problems creating a new web session. I'd really like to get this working, if anyone has had success creating new web sessions for wap please share
QPST: using 2.7 build215 can connect out of the box -- was able to edit the m.ip field so that I've enabled EVDO DUN and that works great!!! fast speeds and it works great with my mac via BT -- you can find instructions on how to do this here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=938352
Using EFS explorer though certain things are locked - cannot access the mmc directory and cannot access the nvm directory -- also when I try and pull files out/put them on I've had no success -- ringers seem to be tricky in general with this phone
P2kcommander or P2kman: Once I connect with PST and try and run these I can't connect -- I've seen others on this forum who have had success with P2kcommander and moving files, I just can't seem to get it to work for me....yet
Bitpim: am able to connect using generic CDMA modem and all I can see is the filesystem. I've been able to overwrite the verizon.gif that shows up on the front screen when the flip is open, but when I try and add/move pics or ringers it cannot do it -- I get an error
MPT: able to connect right out of the box via USB and BT -- MPT updated to the newest version so I get the MAXX Ve skin, but no multimedia studio option. I've manually changed the "phone modem" in MPT trying different options -- when I use the e815m or the razrv3mm I'm able to get to get the multimedia studio option and photos work great moving to/from the phone. Ringers I get an error and videos I can't even see.
Based on my experience with previous moto's, I'm guessing seem 2742 needs to be modded in order to get some of these features working again -- I would really like to get all the features in MPT working and if I can create a new web session to use google then I will be happy with the phone and not take it back. I've had problems with my 2gb tf card but I think that might be related to the card and not the phone....
It would be great if we could get all hacking/mod info ALL here and link this thread from the stickied "maxx ve threads of interest".
If there is anything I can do to help figure these things out just give me a shout -- there are some incredibly smart and talented people on this board and I have no doubt they'll have it all figured out in no time
When we get it all working, beers are on me
What did you do to get in connected to Bitpim? Are you using BT or USB?
I wanted to overwrite the verizon.gif but couldn't make any progress.
I'm on a Mac as well.
I used the USB cable and set bitpim to other cdma phone and that lets you view the filesystem -- but I did it on winblows.
I have connected it to my mac via BT though, just haven't tried bitpim with it on that platform.
If you can't get it to connect, post to the Maxx and apple thread here: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1150660
and when I get home tonight I'll try and do the same thing on my mac and see what happens

I have noticed that on my windows machine when you load BitPIM it automatically recognizes the phone as other CDMA phone and sets everything up. On the mac BitPim will not automatically regocnize and setup the phone you have to select from one of two different usb connections. Hopefully this will all change in an update, and hopefully that update is soon.

Try overwriting the web session file in the root directory using BitPim with one that you have modified.
Use the following tool to create a custom web session if needed.
Given that it is a new chipset that we haven't worked with before, it would be expected that it might require the latest versions of service software for full compatibility like the RTT Browser file etc.
PST 7.26 the latest and QPST 2.5 build 263 is the latest, I suggest digging around for those and seeing if the give any greater access.
What directories are available in QPST and BitPim?
Which files in those directories can be copied and saved, overwritten etc.
Do a service programming and software download to start creating a record of the nvm.
Create a directory structure that mirrors the phone and save as many files as you are able for reference and backup.
Look at the 2742 seem and compare it to known seems to isolate differences and potentially critical bits and check function of known edits.

Given that the v710 used a different seem for most of the functions you're looking for, 2742 is probably not going to be it. Better dump as much as you can through RadioComm( if it works.)

I'm curious to see the file system and seems on the Maxx.. to see how different it is from the previous models.
Example.. I just got a Samsung U620... almost EVERYTHING is under the /BREW folder... the NVM folder is locked completely, can't even get a file list. This is different than the Samsung U740 I have.
and after playing with the Moto UI on the LG and Samsungs.. I really can't see myself liking the Maxx unless it becomes available on some other carrier with the Moto UI, and a flash gets leaked.

I also use an E815 as a primary phone...after quicking looking at and dismissing the KRZR before, I tried the Maxx VE briefly in the store this week. The phone display looks on par with the E815, and I'm hoping for some device convergence to be able to use a music program that can do more than the E815's song dump, especially for a 2GB transflash card. Having the option to use Navigator would be nice too. My E815 reception is awesome; hopefully the Maxx is good.
I've read some complaints that the Maxx is too big, but I don't like the teeny-tiny phones, as my hands are large...the Maxx felt good to hold and when you factor in the E815 antenna stub, the Maxx was comparable in length but nicely thinner.
I think once my new every two kicks in and I can buy it for $100 or less (perhaps after the iphone comes out?), I might upgrade, but I also am very curious to know what if anything can be changed on the phone. The red bar GUI is *ugly.
I guess this post is a little off topic...suffice it to say that I hope it can be hacked enough to improve the GUI and remove VZN clutter. I'm sure my E815 won't last forever.

The Maxx's display should look 10X better than the 815. its QVGA, and i think the 815 is something like 172x220 pixels. the maxx is 240x320(pretty sure), a much higher res. its almost like HD for phone screens. and so far nothing is out yet to change the UI look, but give it time, its only been out for like 3 days. and the vcast music player isnt too bad, considering that the UI is so restrictive.
