Wow! That is cold and logical. Are you a Vulcan?

I personally think Stafford is a bit nuts to pay that much too, though.

Ditto. I use it as a WiFi tablet (for now). Lot more fun than a N800 I had for a while.

It wasn't that long ago that Vodafone was publicly complaining that the iPhone didn't have 3G, which is an indication that Apple wasn't letting up in the boardroom over making a 3G phone.

That's just speculation really. We all know that 3G is being tested throughout canada right now (well everywhere but might T.O. ) and since the thought is that apple will and might be presently trying to get a 3g capable iphone going reasonably it would be a good launch item for rogers to brag about so to speak. But it would surely piss off quite a few people down south i imagine. But you never know what may come of all this. Just want to see the dam iphone here either way. Gone from a Pearl to a Tytn and the iPhone might just be the better of the 3 ......for me anyway.

Agreed with previous poster in Canada.. I only use mine with WiFi in Ottawa, but it is peachy.. best web browsing exp. ever on a mobile. I look forward to an unlock, but if it never happens -- that's cool too, makes for a killer web appliance

This entire thread is speculation, and I agree that I'll take any damn iPhone as well (other than those cardboard ones). My guess though is that, while Rogers is getting ready to put the finishing touches on its 3G network, Jobs just couldn't defend himself from the attacks that would come for releasing a 3G version so soon after the EDGE version. I'm in the camp that 3G iPhones won't appear until 2008.

But again, I'll gladly accept either 3G or EDGE iPhone here in Canada, as long as it comes by in a couple months.

Has anyone noticed how Rogers' dealers, agents and CSRs have abandoned this (admittedly very silly) thread of late? Those NDAs are killer.

I wonder if this means an announcement, and very soon.

I'd honestly be suprised if rogers gets it... I just don't don't see them giving in to Apple's data plan "needs"

You know however that one of the Rogers Wireless suits came out recently and stated that they would be offering the iPhone with "appropriate" pricing.

Now, of course, it's up to you to decide what's "appropriate", but my point is that Rogers seems to have come to an acceptable agreement with Apple in terms of their data plans.

CSRs wouldn't know any more than you or I. (i.e. speculation.) There are no Apple reps in Vancouver, unless they are here on vacation.

The fact that Rogers is testing iPhones is a given. Testing a handset is an obvious preliminary step with any hardware that's piqued their interest. It doesn't indicate that a deal has been done.

3G installation doesn't matter either, since there will not be a release of a second-generation iPhone in Canada 2 months after the 1st generation was released in Apple's home country.

Nor will there be a 2nd gen iPhone *anywhere* before the US gets it. Americans would riot in the streets; they would feel had if they'd been sold "old tech" when everyone else gets "modern tech" at the same price. As it is, the whole world only gets "old tech", so at least everyone gets screwed equally.

The one and only fact that can possibly indicate whether it will come here is Rogers' negotiations with Apple. Or, more specifically, whether Rogers is willing to "bottom". And none of us can know what the outcome of discussions between Ted Rogers and Steve Jobs will be -- we can only speculate based on experience. CSRs do that, Apple salesmen do that, forum posters do that, and I am doing that now!

Very interesting thing I noticed today

So, in case you haven't seen, the Apple Canada website, along with most other international websites, was upgraded to the US-style Apple website (however, this international version of the new website lacks the iPhone button). Anywho, as I was looking through the source code of the new website (don't ask me why I was) I noticed the code for the navbar had the iPhone link commented out:

Code:
<li id="gn-store"><a href="http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/canadastore">Store</a></li> <li id="gn-mac"><a href="/ca/mac/">Mac</a></li> <li id="gn-ipoditunes"><a href="/ca/itunes/">iPod + iTunes</a></li> <!--<li id="gn-iphone"><a href="/iphone/">iPhone</a></li>--> <li id="gn-downloads"><a href="/downloads/">Downloads</a></li> <li id="gn-support"><a href="/ca/support/">Support</a></li>

At first I thought nothing of it (other than it showed that Apple's web team may have been a little lazy). However, I decided to look at the other international websites, and I was very suprised to find that the iPhone line had been completely deleted on the other websites. Take the UK website for example:

Code:
<li id="gn-apple"><a href="/uk/">Apple</a></li> <li id="gn-store"><a href="/uk/thestore/">Store</a></li> <li id="gn-mac"><a href="/uk/mac/">Mac</a></li> <li id="gn-ipoditunes"><a href="/uk/itunes/">iPod + iTunes</a></li> <li id="gn-downloads"><a href="/uk/downloads/">Downloads</a></li> <li id="gn-support"><a href="/uk/support/">Support</a></li>

No iPhone mention

Now this doesn't really mean anything at all, however it's definitely a positive as opposed to negative.

Heh.. Staying positive, this reminds me of all the threads that the Hiptop community was holding onto when the Hiptop3 was still in question for Canada.

There were people hunting through the Danger website pointing out the fact that the Hiptop3 manual was on the fidohiptop.ca website, there was others playing the cat and mouse game with CS getting quotes and 'confirmations', etc etc etc.

In the end, it never came.

Again, I'm staying positive, and the Apple.ca website thing is interesting indeed, but who knows what'll happen in the end.

yeah, it's not that I'm crawling through their website for crumbs, I just happened to stumble upon it while looking at other things

Anyway, I think there's no need to worry at least until European dates are announced. If Canada isn't mentioned before then/at that time, then you can start worrying

PS: just for fun, I checked the french site as well. the link is also there, while on the France site, it's not there at all.
