Telus Venus (VX8800) SWF Wallpaper
First I would like to say thank you to CigarJohnny and all the credit goes to him. I have successfully added matrix animation to my Telus Venus by following these instructions.
Instructions on installing custom SWF wallpaper
- Using Bitpim, browse the file system to "/flash/ui/wallpaper".
- First we will make a backup of the original wallpaper directory. Right-click the "wallpaper" folder and select "Backup Directory..."
- Bitpim will save the directory as a zip file then prompt you for a location to save it to. Save it where you want in case you want to restore the original swf files that came with your vx8800.
- Return to the "wallpaper" folder in Bitpim and right-click the preinstalled wallpaper you wish to replace with your custom one. Select "Overwrite...".
- Browse to where you saved your custom swf file, select it and click the "Open" button.
- The existing version will be replaced by mine. The file name will remain the same but the file size should change.
-unplug your vx8800 and browse to menu > Settings & Tools > Display Settings > Wallpaper > Fun Animations
- The thumbnail images will still be the original wallpapers but if you preview them you will see what you replaced them with. In order to find the one you installed, just remember that they are displayed in the same order as they are named (wallpaperType1.swf, wallpaperType2.swf, etc...).
- Click the OK button to apply the new wallpaper and enjoy!
You can get matrix.swf file on Verizon Lg phone thread.
Once again big thanks goes out to cigarjohnny for all his hard work.
Love this forum, keep up the good work people.

I just copy the wallpapers (static and animated) to My Pictures and set it as wallpaper. Seems too simple. BitPim doesn't get involved - I use bluetooth or the microsd card. I keep the microsd installed, don't see the point of forever taking it out....
All I use BitPim for is the calendar and contacts......... I have not got to ringtones yet....
same here with the venus... is always says "found OTHER phone on com 5" what gives?

what am i doin wrong?
I've had this issue as well w/ BitPim where it wouldn't detect my phone, or "Other CDMA phone on Com xx" would come up.
First, make sure you have the LG USB Drivers installed. There's tons of links if you search the forums. Install the drivers, restart your computer (not necessary, but helpful). Plug your phone in, and when it comes up asking if you want to Start Mass Storage on USB, Choose No. A lot of people choose Yes and then wonder why BitPim won't work. You must Choose No, or, Make no Selection at all. ** Edit: You can also do this when your phone is off, Plug the cable in and your phone will turn on to that "Charging Battery" state. BitPim is able to communicate with your phone in this mode, and actually, Some folders, for me at least, are protected and cannot be written to when the phone is On, but in this mode, Writing to these folders is no problem. Forgot about that part... lol **
After that, Easiest thing to do is goto Edit > Settings.
- Change the Phone Type to LG-VX8800(Venus)
- Where it says Com Port, click Browse.
You want to look under the *** Available Ports *** List for LGE Mobile USB Serial Port. Doesn't matter what COM port it is, as long as it's Available. Click Ok.
Now, if you haven't done so already, you'll want to enable File System view. View > View Filesystem. Make sure there's a check beside it.
Click on the File System icon in the Left column. Click the + beside the '/' folder.
You should be able to browse the file system now.
Also, Does anyone know exactly how to go about writing your own custom SWF's for Backgrounds. Because SWF's are Published Files, I can't extract the AS File to see what Scripts are used to play the Animations. I'm new to flash, so this is why I ask... I'm sure anyone who has some flash experience will think this is a n00b question..
Thanks guys, and Hope that helped you Kevin and BassToy
i have manually set my phone to LG-VX8800, and then put it on a open com port like you said. But when i go to the file system, and i click the +, i cannot see anything, after a while of it saying "busy" and loading, it shows nothing, i dont get any files.
when i try to overwright the origional animations, it says "access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider"
wat do i do?
i use to be able to do this, but now i get this message, did they update something?
