Any thoughts when the BB Tour(9630) will get OS 5.0?

Wirelessly posted (BB Tour 9630: Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.14320/812; U; en) Presto/2.2.0)

Nope but why don't you give one of the leaked versions a try? There are a couple minor bugs, but nothing to worry about. Threaded SMS is a dream!

Besides threaded messaging, what improvements does the leaked version offer?

When a carrier approves it -- same as any other BB OS release. They're not announced and, therefore, there are no hard release dates.

I'm hearing interesting things about some of the leaked versions not working at all. What's the latest safe one?

I recently tried the 5.0.230 that had few bugs. Some of them were more annoying than others. The major issue that I got was that Apps were not always capable of connecting to the web. Also, I was not impressed by the speed of the browser, sometimes it was rapid but others, simply not responding, 5 minutes to open Google really sucks.

Anyways, I reverted back for the moment, I am really missing threaded SMS though, its a must coming from a Win Mo phone.

I gotta say, after loading 5.0 on my Storm, I am pretty excited to see an official release for the Tour. The threaded SMS is really nice. I think that they will get it right with this OS.

I have been waiting for this release myself. Anyone have any screen shots of the 5.0?

i have 5.0.0.230 on my BB tour.

If you travel alot, 5.0 now changes your time zone settings automatically. Before the network time would change, but you still to change your time zone to get the right time to display. I have traveled to Florida, Las Vegas, and London recently and the time zone updated automatically in all 3 places.

You can now edit every single profile, not just the normal one. If you had 4.5 or before you already had this feature. And now you can Vibrate + Ring at the SAME time for any notification, along with customized vibration lengths.

i want to say the battery lasts a bit longer than 4.7.1.40. I also had 4.1.7.61 for a while too and it was much better on that as well.

suggested email recipients. if you received an email from a random person that is not on your contact list and you try composing an email to them, in the TO, CC, BCC fields you can type their name and their email address will show up as suggestion. they won't officially be in your contact list. not sure if this is just related to gmail or a feature on the BB, but it wasn't there before I had 5.0.

Predictive text input is another added feature.

one thing i hate about 5..230 is that they took out the media icon. now it is broken down to 5 separate icons for music, pictures, videos, ringtones, and voice notes. I liked having 1 icon before. they should have all 6 icons as some people might like to have a designated icon.

1 more small minor addition in OS 5.0, when you are scrolling through a list of messages, the date will always stay on top. that way if you are in the middle of a bunch of messages and lose track of which date you are sorting through, it is always there now.

Head on over to http://www.bbhybrids.net for some very solid 5.0 Tour hybrids. Those guys are amazing. And it's very easy to install. I've been running the latest 5.0.0.230/.238/.351 hybrid since it came out a few weeks ago. It seems to have fixed all the issues I was having with the straight up .230 leak. Great stuff!

Thanks for the tip! I just installed that same version.
Quick question, did you swap your radio for version 5.0.0.191? i read in the forums that gives you better radio signal, i just left it how it was.

Nope, I didn't swap the radio. I've tried most of the beta leaks from .140 til now, and haven't noticed any difference in signal. I didn't notice any difference with 4.7 OS's either. Hopefully RIM will figure it out sometime, the bouncing signal strength can be a pain sometimes...
