Updated: added phone pricing / added all four phone options
T-Mobile today announced T-Mobile Complete, a new pre-packaged, pay-in-advance offering. The plans are similar to the company's Even More Plus no-contract, unlimited plans, but offer the first month of service for free. Four phones are available initially: the BlackBerry Curve 8520, Samsung Gravity, Samsung t239 and the Samsung t229. Up-front phone prices start at $60. The phones are available at Best Buy and select Wal-Mart locations.

There's also a discussion on this in the T-Mobile Prepaid forum.
It's not at all a bad deal. Engadget is reporting that the BB 8520 will be $299, which is the same as the phone was on T-Mobile.com (contract free) until recently (they upped the price to $349, for some reason) -- but it features the first month of service (and apparently activation) for free. That's at least a ~$100 value; more if you go unlimited. It effectively drops the price of the phone itself to ~$190 -- and this is for a phone that still sells for $130 on contract. I'm not sure who'd sign a two-year contract to pay $20 more a month in order to save $60, but then again I don't "get" why T-Mobile needs to keep the Even More (non-Plus) plans around, anyway.

I looked on the Best Buy website, and I found the 8520 for $299, but I didn't see it mention that it came with T-Mobile complete (i.e., the first month free of talk & data.) I saw that for the Samsung, not the 8520.

The TMO in my area will not sell you a phone unless you buy the "extras" that go with it. It makes the phone about $30+ more bucks. I refuse to do that! I have found those BlackBerrys here on CraigsList for about $200 or less used. But for a new phone with a first free month for $299 sounds good and you dont have to put up with the sales people at the TMo store. LOL
Off topic, but i picked up a used G1 on CL like new for $60!

Extras as in case or headset? Why don't you just buy it from those losers (assuming they confirm their return policy) and then immediately return the "extras" you didn't want in the first place?

And again, this isn't the same as FlexPay. It's Even More Plus, which can be FlexPay, but most will qualify for the regular post-paid plan.
Basically, you can give this as a gift to someone, and no matter how bad their credit, they'll be guaranteed to be able to get service at the low EM+ rates. Most will be able to just hop on the post-paid (pay after each month) EM+ plan, but for those with very poor credit there's still FlexPay (pay before each month, with I believe a reduced coverage area).
EM+, if you do not set it up with a credit card for payment, will force the "Flexpay control fee" on you.
So it effectively IS Flexpay, but named something else.
As I've posted elsewhere, it appears EM was implemented on the Postpaid platform and EM+ on the Flexpay platform.
This became pretty clear to me when we learned that EM+ numbers have the same "migration" to Postpaid not allowed problem as Flexpay has had since inception.
