Is the Blackberry 9530 Storm compatible with the car radio adapter JVC KS-BTA200?
Hi,
I am having a hard time finding out if my Blackberry 9530 Storm will work with the car radio Bluetooth adapter (the only one that would work with my car radio) JVC KS-BTA200.
I contacted JVC and received the following link: http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english...tooth/2007.html
which contains information from March 2009, and it does list one Blackberry as compatible for hands free phone functionality and a version of the same phone as not compatible (or so it seems to me).
So if I went by this list, the answer is no, which makes me less willing to spend over $100 if I can't be sure that it'll work.
Does anyone have more current information or a test result of their own if newer Blackberries, especially the Storm, work with this Bluetooth adapter?
The least it should do is allow hands free phone features, but SMS would be nice, too.
I'm fairly new to Bluetooth and haven't used it much except for one handset a while back - are there any standards that say "if this device has this standard, it will always work"? Or is Bluetooth functionality sometimes random, even if it "should" work?
Bluetooth is a series of radio frequencies and software protocols which allow devices to communicate over short distances. They must support both the bluetooth frequencies *and* the same protocol, for two devices to be compatible. There are all sorts of protocols for different devices, including hands free (headset), a2dp (stereo headsets), and even HID (human interface device, i.e. bluetooth mouse and keyboard).
Generally, if a handset supports bluetooth, it will support the hands free protocol. Your car radio should also support bluetooth, and the hands free protocol. This should result in basic functionality.
Now, the fancier features like SMS are a crap-shoot. Blackberry, in the past, has been known for lack of compatibility with the fancier and better devices...it involved their specific implementation of the bluetooth stack, and various software limitations. Their more recent models have shown increased compatibility.
(BB was so bad that they actually used to have BB tweaked headsets)
My suggestion, not having either of these devices myself, would be to actually try it. Is this a device which you could buy, and return if it doesn't work? It might be inconvenient, but an actual real-world trial is the best way to know if it'll work in the way you expect.
Perhaps you have a friend who has one of these units? Same approach...try your phone with his stereo.
Hi, thanks for your answer.
The only person I know who has the same car radio (but not the bluetooth adapter) has no cell phone and no interest in getting one.
Looks like I'll have to find a vendor where I can return the adapter if it doesn't work for me.
