is it possible to get an E71x (BLACK) for $300 ???
Folks help me out,
I regretfully sold one I purchased because I was skeptical about the guy who sold it to me ( the plastic on the screen was scratched, etc)
But I want one again, I am not sure if the NAM is the E71x or what
I want a BLACK colored one. That is my preference, yes all are nice.. BUT something about that jet black, mmmm.. I must have one !
Now, I have scanned craigslist everyday since I sold the one I had and cannot locate one to my liking.
I am in Vancouver till the middle of December and head back home (T'dad)
Is there anywhere I can check again ??? I don't have Paypal (Banks back home don't do it) But have a credit card
I want one badly !!
Can I get one for $300 (shipping and tax included ) anywhere????
I would guess that you can since I just ordered an unlocked (gray) e71 NAM from buy.com (via amazon) for $239. I think most people think the e71 is preferable to the e71x (no bloatware).
Also, there are people around here that know how to mod the case to make it black if you want to go that route.

The regular e71 is a better phone and cheaper.
Buy a black housing and put it on it.

Worst customer service on the planet, i'd be lucky if i ever got my n73 back.

Agreed. I bought E71x for my wife. I currently use the E71-2 and was surprised how crippled the 71x is. AT&T locked her down pretty good. You can't even move the AT&T icons. They are locked to the main menu. Although I believe it is a very sexy phone though. The black is lovely. But if you can get one that hasn't been molested by AT&T, I say go for it

I really want the Black color though, that's what i fell in love with
The regular E71 you say is the better of the two ?
What makes it better if you don't mind me asking?
I also see that Nokia UK has the Black E71.. is this the same as the NAM version just different color? (maybe I can order one from there ?? )
One more thing, someone has a E71 from Telus here that is locked (I found someone to unlock it) it is the same black as the E71x.. could it also be a E71x ? or it is probably the normal E71
Hope you can understand me
All in all, I generally would like the better of the two, so please advise
The e71x is the att locked version. Has a bunch of att garbage on it. I don't even think it has ovi maps (replaced by att navigator). You can probably unlock it, not sure. I wouldn't even consider the e71x personally. My friend has one, but it's all locked down. You can't even edit the default access point.
I would just save a little extra money and go for the e72.

You can get an E71x for ~$280 at Walmart. You can also remove the bloatware and I successfully installed Ovi Maps, Nokia Mail etc. I agree with the post earlier about getting a E71 NAM for $239 and replacing the housing ~ $30 with a black one. It will be cheaper and you get an unbranded phone. I have the X and it works well for me but it took some effort to get it where I like it.
I am not interested in activating it on any plan at the moment,
I am In Vancouver till next month and I go back home.
As I am here, it may be easier to get the phone here.
Can you say what are the other differences between the two models ?
Also, as I mentioned.. I found a Black E71 from someone on CL, but it is locked to Telus. Would it perhaps be the same NAM with a different color housing ? (Black)
Oh and what you think about the ones from the UK with relation to the software?
what makes the regular better, besides the software ? harder to upgrade?
please enlighten me
People have stopped replying because ur just not getting it. The e71x has a bunch of at&t crap on there; and i dont even know where u can get a at&t e71x in canada (u probably have to import it). Then ur talking about the telus e71. Im sure u can unlock it, but it may also have some telus branding which u dont want. The best is to buy an un-branded phone directly from nokia or amazon, newegg, etc. Then the next thing u need to consider is 3G (if u care for it) the UK e71 wont work on 3g in the US and vice versa.
So in conclusion, get an unbranded e71. If ur really stuck on the black one get a black housing from cnn.cn and swap it out. It really cant be explained any better than this, and if u still dont get it....

I would suggest you read some old N71 threads. Yes they are long, but put in the effort. Learn. I mean if you are willing to spend $300. for a device, you should at least be willing to do the research. The cliff notes of all this is: there is a version of this device you can get brand new directly from Nokia (through Amazon, New Egg) that has no carrier branding at all. This is always a superior way to have a device. There are several reasons, most alluded to here. No bloatware & the ability to simply insert your existing SIM and use a cheap data plan.
You say you don't want to activate this device, what the heck are you talking about? How were you planning on using it without service? And where are you planning to use it and with what carrier? Why would anyone want a 3G data device without a data plan? Your profile is not filled out, and your location is listed as "in a house" That's real helpful. Where is "back home"? If you want answers, provide information. And do some reading. It is not the job of other HoFo members to spoon feed you.
