T-Mobile Unlimited Internet
I currently use AT&T as my provider, but my phone has stopped getting signal in my house (it gets signal every now and again, but only one bar). After dealing with AT&T's support and having a bad experience, I decided that I may be giving T-Mobile a shot once number portability goes into effect.
Now I use bluetooth to connect my PDA through the internet, and I noticed that T-Mobile's internet plan is unlimited (cool!), but is 29.99 a month (not cool!). Do they have any alternate plans? My bill will be like $100 a month with that extra thirty tacked on. Not sure if I am ready to pay that much, but with the unlimited, I will be able to browse with my laptop, so that should be cool.
It's $9.99 for the T-Zones APN (wap.voicestream.com) and $19.99 for internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com.
internet2 & internet3 have a compressing HTTP proxy server that can rewrite html/graphics for PDA's too. internet3 gives out 'real' addresses for VPN users. wap and internet2 are behind NAT.

VPN support depends on the protocol.. Some VPNs require you to have a real Internet address on the outside. PPTP VPNs do not, while many other ones (GRE) do.
T-Mobile's WAP and internet2 gateways use NAT.. this is, the IP addresses they use are for internal network use only. the internet3 gives you a real IP address which shuld work with all types of VPNs.
Difference between $9.99 plan and $29.99 internet plans
Hey everyone,
I was curious... I see all this talk about the $9.99 T-Zones plan. SUPERFIRE in a previous post explained that you can use TZones on your PDA or LAPTOP to access the internet. How does this work? Do you still have to use a wireless card or the like to access the internet? I currently have the unlimited plan and I am using an AIRCARD to connect to the internet. If I had the $9.99 plan, can I still connect the same way? I am confused...
Also, DIEMAN posted that:
"It's $9.99 for the T-Zones APN (wap.voicestream.com) and $19.99 for internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com.

What is the difference in internet2 and internet3????
All I want to do is access the internet with my PDA and LAPTOP for the cheapest way. I think I read in a previous post that you can have the $9.99 plan and still access the same features that you get when you subscribe to the $29.99 plan...?

I dont know about the 9.99 plan. I have the 19.99 plan which is unlimited and I can use a client and access through our VPN server. I think the 29.99 plan is only for people for no voice plan. If you have voice, unlimited internet is 19.99, not 29.99. In sure someone will correct me if Im wrong on this.

T-zones and unlimited internet are two different animals. Granted, the way T-Mobile talks about them invites confusion.
T-zones is a feature for WAP-enabled phones that allows you to download ringtones, games, and programs. T-Mobile also offers some WAP-enabled information services like weather, news, movie schedules. But it is not designed to let you roam wherever you want around the internet with a browser.
For that, you want their unlimited internet service (19.99) that gives you GPRS access to anything you want on the internet. You can use your phone's WAP browser, or you can use your phone as a router to connect your PDA or laptop to the internet. (How you connect your computer to the phone is up to you - sync cable, IR, Bluetooth - use whatever means your devices support.)
Re: Re: Difference between $9.99 plan and $29.99 internet plans
Here we go again.
There are several of us that are surfing the web with our PDA's and Laptops daily using T-zones unlimited $9.99 service. Design or no design, the way T-mo talks or doesn't talk about the service or lack thereof and whether its documented or not, it works. I want to browse with my PDA/laptop, use AIM apps, IRC, email proggies on the PDA and it all works except for pop email. For that I use www.mail2wap.com (try it).
The original poster said he wanted to browse with his laptop. $9.99 for unlimited isn't a bad deal. They may do away with the wap APN working with PDA's and laptops, but until then,

I appreciate the attempts at clarification and apologize for my ignorance. So as far as I read it... One who wants to get "UNLIMITED INTERNET ACCESS" on T-Mobile should get the $29.99 plan (with no voice) and the $19.99 plan (same plan I know) with a voice plan. The $9.99 T-Zone plan is for WAP browsing on a WAP enabled phone. What I DON'T understand is this:
HOW does the T-Zone access the internet, say if you are going to attempt to use it to access the INTERNET with say a laptop or PDA? Ie... HOW would you hook it up? Would you still be able to use an AIRCARD or the like? Or do you need to use a cable connected to a phone? From what io gather, you need to have a WAP enabled phone to accomplish it. I might be wrong. Any clarification is appreciated. My situation is that I use and AIRCARD with the $29.99 data-only plan and I don't have a phone. So would I still be able to use the T-Zone plan for what I am using the unlimited plan? Lastly, is the speed the same as with the $29.99 plan?

It's my understanding that you CANNOT just get the T-Zones plan (either the $2.99 or $9.99 T-Zones plan) as a standalone to use with the Aircard... So you're stuck with the $29.99 plan...
HOW does the T-Zone access the internet, say if you are going to attempt to use it to access the INTERNET with say a laptop or PDA? Ie... HOW would you hook it up?
I used to connect every day with my laptop and my S-105 via IR with T-Zones Pro (unlimited usage).
Create a new connection (on laptop with Windows XP in my case) and your cellphone should be recognized as a modem.
I can't remember the exact number to dial (something like #99 or *99#... do some research on that).
Connect your handset via GPRS and through IR (or Cable) and then you are able to browse on your laptop.... that's all !
Like bobbyr said, whether T-Mo is ok or not with that; it works!
