Over the past few days while browsing through mMode I have noticed it has been much faster so today I decided to run a few speed tests with my Nokia 6200 and my laptop. Low and behold look at the result. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I ran that test about 5 times as well as other tests from other sites. Upload speeds are around 40Kbps. I then ran the same tests with my SE T616 and just got the average GPRS speeds of around 39Kbps which was expected. So either AT&T is getting ready to launch EDGE and is silently turning it on or they are just testing it here in Philly. I'm hoping it stays this way and AT&T comes out with an affordable unlimited plan. I will be all over an unlimited plan!!
I have put the image I had attached on the first post onto another server since Comcast's seems to be pretty slow today. As the picture shows, speeds are around 70Kbps. This is outside Philadelphia.
Now what I am wondering is how many time slots AT&T will support. The Nokia 6200 is only a 2+1 EDGE device meaning I am basically running at max right now considering the phone has a max of 80Kbps down and 40Kbps up. If EDGE goes all the way 384Kbps, I wonder what speeds I would get once companies like Sierra Wireless release an EDGE AirCard. Keeping in mind though that AT&T might not allow the max of 8 timeslots.
there is an edge aircard coming out 4th quarter att will carry

AT&T already has an unlimited data plan for $79.99.
