Doh.
I can't believe I didnt try deleting and letting the phone re-build that .map file. I had been hex editing it trying to get it to work, and couldnt get past 1 file.
This phone will play mp3s, BTW, renamed to mid, but the volume control does not effect them for some reason.

Hi there. I'm the guy on the other side of the counter. If you're a jerk to me, guess how hard I'm going to try to help you?
I'm also very interested in changing the wallpaper on my 3200. I've been reading through all the posts and have frantically downloaded Brew, Bitpim 7.14 and have a good knowledge of CG and Photoshop. I would like to help figure this out too but have more to learn about an acceptable image format. I know 128X128 and 65K and I've created BCI files but I'm not sure I'm on the right track with making an image file that will work. Any help would be great.
Also are you putting the image files in your user Dir? The only thing I see is the wallpaper.bit in /downloads and it's a big file so are all the images within that?
I was able to upload midi files for ringtones and they work great! It was pretty easy to figure out how to delete them as well (just reverse the directions, basically!)
Thanks again, this was a wonderful resource and my wife and I are excited to be able to choose our own ringtones!

I have a true USB cable for both my 7000 and my 6000, been undecided as to buy a cable for the wifes 3200. What exactly did you use to sand the tabs/keys off?
Just curious in case I do decide to start messing with her phone.
I don't know about sanding keys or anything like that.
I do know that the above procedure worked on my vx3200 with a simple vx6000 cable that I got from radio shack. It is the Cable #19 for LG Models 1200, VX6000 from Futuredial. It worked just fine with my VX3200. It is model #17-792.
I used Bitpim and the above directions to make it work. You'll also need the driver software which I easily found on the software section of these LG forums.
it says rsc232 , it's a standard serial interface, so it uses the cable with the convertor chip in the little black box
NOT a straight thru USB 'universal serial bus' cable
it's confusing for some people because they are familar with computer hardware ..
they get a PC, or laptop and a phone.. and they don't know that USB is less than 10 years,
most new laptops don't have the 9 pin DIN plug for 232 , only USB or firewire connectors,
yet phone protocols and MODEM signals have been in use for over 30 years, and 232 is the standard not USB..
so the MFG make conversion cables
USB is the standard for most newer digital electronics , like cameras
but i have a digital camera with a 232 interface..
for the first few years scanners were available, it was hard to find anything but 232 until mfg standardized a new paralle interface with 2 way comunication.. in the beganing Paralle was one way to the printer only
Does it matter what usb cable I use I was thinking about buying one on ebay here's the link, please reply if anyone has had any luck transfering ringtones with this cable thanks
