I am new to unlocking and doing this for a buyer of my old 2g iphones. When I tried on my new 2.4 aluminum macbook, I got an error in itunes when trying to recognize the iphone after running pwnage. I switched to my vista laptop and it ran without a problem. Just thought I would share. Might be something I did wrong since I am new to this, but it was successful on my other pc.

It's very possible they may have a slightly different build of iTunes on the new hardware... the new macbook[pro]s do have updated QT and OS builds, maybe iTunes was updated to work better with the new QT version and this is an 'added security feature.'
I'd suggest downgrading iTunes (including removing the relevant .kext files, as instructed on this site: http://ja1me.net/iTunes_and_Oops/the_whole_deal.html ) and install iTunes 7.7, 7.7.1 (or maybe even 8.0) before trying pwnage/QuickPwn again.

I too have encountered this problem on my new MBP. No matter what I do, iTunes will not recognize the iPhone in DFU mode. I think it's error 2001. However I can use my "Hackintosh" Acer Aspire One and everything's fine. I don't know what the problem is with the new MBP.

Logistically it makes no sense to 'tweak' iTunes to not recognize a phone in DFU mode. DFU mode is a legitimate tool built into the phone for repair purposes. Not just for jailbreaking. Techs will put the phone in that mode, if you have a problem, to force a restore.
I'm wondering if there's something else, similar to the Opt-Restore method, that needs to be done so that it sees it, to make it so that the average user can't use DFU without knowing the 'trick'?
Just wanted to add that I am using a new MBP, and I am having the same exact problem. Can't get my iPhone into DFU mode - I also get that error 2001. This is so annoying!

I have the new Alu MB 2.0, and had the same problem with DFU on it. Had to you windows desktop to jailbreak. Quickpwn and iTunes were not able to see the phone in DFU. Could this be an issue of power ? The new hardware (USB ports) could be not giving enough power to the phone while in DFU mode ? Because if it was just iTunes, quickpwn should of went thru but it doesnt it just sits there....
