Don't forget to adjust permissions for GPS to "allow" when using Google maps. That might help. I haven't tested, so I'm not speaking from experience...
Just tested some of them. I have GPS set to Location and the apps are all Allowed.
BBMaps -> Locked in about 25 to 30 seconds
Google Maps -> 800 meters instantly then waited for GPS, and eventually said GPS unavail.
WLS -> Can't even enable the GPS. It fails to initialize it.
I tried to leave the BBMaps open in the background, but it seems that as soon as you app switch off of it it disables the GPS. You can see this if you switch back it takes another 30 seconds to relock.
Oh well.... It looks like only BBMaps is unlocked. It's a start, but yeah.....
I see what you guys are seeing. There were ruors of this happening but I didn't believe Verizon would do it. In fact when I loaded 4.5 I launched BB maps but didn't get a satellite lock. I walked outside today and ...well....we have disco! excellent! I wonder if an update to GMM and service books may fix the problem. I noticed that the voice search now works with the offical 4.5 release and 2.3.2 of GMM. I wish the camera worked for geo-tagging. That would be nice. I just checked a photo in iPhoto and with Geo tagging enabled it doesn't seem to populate any GPS data at all in the image meta data. Maybe in a future update. Nice find.
Hard to believe but it works using 4.5.0.97. GMM still does not work, as specified by others. I would love to ditch the GPS puck when using my 8330 but it's a step in the right direction.
Google Maps will not work with GPS even if the GPS on the Pearl and Curve has been unlocked because the "My Location" feature in Google Maps is still a Beta. It does not recognize the internal GPS in the phone.
You can stop trying to get Google Maps to work with GPS until that feature is finalized by Google.
BB Maps will work if the GPS has been unlocked. There are several other BB applications which will also work fine.
Such as? my original post was a false alarm.... But, I am curious as to what other apps you've found that work.
