ok guys, i jsut posted and after a days worth of research (ok like 4 hours) i've got some good info for guys in my situation.
this will be a Somewhat of a detailed explination because im one of those guys that needs one to do it myself. so i figure ill try to help out anyone with detailed instructions. Cheesy
my situation: i have tons of songs in i-tunes, and as you may know, i-tunes pretty much locks the song once its in the program, which is pretty weak. i was unable to use any of the music i already purchased or uploaded from purchased cd's as a ring tone. not anymore!
Programs you will need:
Foobar2000 a "converter of sorts"
www.foobar2000.org
media audio cutter. this will turn your mp3 into a mmf format for the phone.

and of course vksync, and i hope you know where that is....
if not...

optional programs:
Sony's Sound Forge: a very good program used to edit audio files, it is very helpful if you are SUPER picky about what you want to do. i.e. fade in and out, add all sorts of little stuff from whammy bar sounds to dropping in and out. or even mixing. you can get thsi program by... ummm "purchasing" it.... yea...
from a friend i learned about a program that will turn any "locked" audio file into a number of different formats, essentially mp3.
http://www.foobar2000.org/
step 1) download this program
step a) download the "LAME" encoder (this allows the music to be turned into a mp3 and does not come with the foobar program unfortunetly)
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lame_Encoder.htm once you download the encoder go ahead and put it into any sort of file. it doesn't matter, i will explain later.
Anyway.....foobar!! SUPER easy to use, you hit open, choose the song you want from i tunes or any other sort of audio and it will appear and play. hit stop or let it play it doesn't matter. right click on the song and go to the convert tab. choose MP3 as the conversion type file. this is when it will ask you about LAME encoder. simply aim and go to the directory and file where you put the encoder. you will only have to do this once.
Now you have your i-tunes songs into an mp3, a format where you can finally turn into a mmf.
---OPTIONAL STEP---
once you have your song formatted into an MP3, you can use sound forge or other programs to edit and slice and dice your song into a 20 second clip. no worries, you can use media cutter as well to cut, but not to nearly the extent. note: media cutter does not allow adding anything to the song, it is simply slice and dice.
-----------------
now that you have an mp3, go ahead and open up windows media cutter. hit open, select the mp3 you just made. it should now be played through this program. if you used another slicing program to make the 20second clip already, then use that file at this point. go ahead and click save, and make sure you change the file type as .mmf this will allow you to use it in your phone
the last step:
open up vksync, hook up your phone through the usb cable/firewire. let all the crap load, now go to the audio tab, make sure the "melody" tab is selected at the top, it should be. now go to the directory where you saved your .mmf file, hit upload, and wham bam its in your phone.
another optional step, but its more useful:
if you want to assign your new found ring tone to a certain amount of people, or one in particular keep on reading. go to contacts in the vksync program. double click any contacts name. it will open up a new window with all their info. on the left hand side, it shows "ringer" select the phone # you want if there are multiple, then go to the scroll down window, choose bells, and your new found ringtone should be right there.
hope this helps some people Cheesy
