My thoughts after going to the store and playing with it for abt 15 minutes:
I'd hoped it would be more 'metallic' than it was, like the RAZR. The RAZR feels very sturdy, and I wasn't too fond of the plastic, especially on the back. The back almost felt cheap. But it did feel nice in my hand. I like the keypad better than the RAZRS.
I'm quite upset that they didn't leave a groove at the top behind where the front flips open so that the phone could be loaded into a holster and flip open.
The screens looked damn good, but like someone else said, the front display disappears way too fast for my liking. The themes were nice.
Maybe there's a quicker way, but it took about 4 menu options to get to the music player. menu-gin/vcast-sounds or something-music/mp3 player. Couldn't get the front buttons to do anything.
It's pretty nice but I wasn't blown away by it like I hoped. For a lot less I can get the 8300 with very similar features. I know one person has commented on comparing the two... anybody else care to join?
Also, I like the regular and white chocolate. I imagine the touchpad takes getting used to... would anyone like to compare this to the chocolates?
to use the music controls close the phone, hit a side key that unlocks the external controls...then hold down the play button
I just emailed an mp3 to my phone (35 sec long) and it sounds like crap when I play it (another person here had the same problem it looks like). That same song from the played from the memory card sounds great. Seems sending the song through vzwpix degrade the file? I know its not that the speaker can't handle the volume and the bitrate because like I said the same file, size, bitrate all that plays very high quality from the memory card.

The quality is downgraded, when you email it. I have sent videos to my phone, that looked great when transfered using my miniSD card, but looked like crap when emailed. I have tested this on my 8100. I have emailed an MP3 file and a video clip to my phone, saved it to my miniSD card and then played it back on my computer. On the video file, the FPS were cut in half when email and the MP3 file was converted to a QPS codec.
So if you e-mail a 30sec clip to the phone it should sound ok?
I usually cut down the song to about 38-41 sec.
Normally(with my 8100) I would use Datapilot to send them and use Cool Edit Pro. to cut down the mp3's.(Just in case someone wanted to know)
When i e-mailed them today to the 8600 it sounds HORRIBLE!
cedjunior, try sending a much lower bitrate mp3 to your phone. 64kbps or even 32kbps should work. I went through this a long time ago with my VX6000. Chances are it's too huge of a file for the phone to process it. Over the phone you'll never notice any difference in sound quality, but chances are it will play perfectly. Try it out and let us know if it worked.
The sizes are under 400kb. I am just clipping parts to like 12-14seconds.
BTW: Does emailing your # @vzwpics.com just count as Text messages?? I have the unlimited plan and I hope there is no extra charge because i have sent like 10 emails to my phone.

I thought the limit was ~350K. Most people stay under 300K just be safe.
Sending to yourtendigitnumber@vzwpix.com counts as a PIX/FLIX message, but since you have an Unlimited (IN) plan, it subtracts from your outside network allotment. If you've gone over that allotment, then it's 25 cents per message.
