New? I dunno, but darn cool none the less, video ringtones

Hey guys...
I have the 8600 right now (not for long though) and i was sent a video today. When i went under options for the video it gave me the option to save the video as a ringtone, so i did... I saved it and lo-and-behold the video will play when the call comes in with sounds and all. Works on the front and inside screens. I don't know if this is new, but it is a really neat un-documented feature

Ok i found a bypass..

1. Send yourself a small video 300k or less
2. Save As Ringtone, and name it whatever a video you want to be is
3. Open bitpim and overwirte the video in the Brew /lk/mr folder with any size video you want

I have successfully assigned a 4meg video to a ringtone and it works great. I actually took a music video, stripped the audio, added in cd quality mp3 audio to it, then converted that to 3gp highest quality with 192k sound.. Looks and sounds awesome!!!

the flix ringtone also works on my enV, just make sure the contact does NOT have any picture assigned for picture ID, just the flisx ringtone

I have a vid of my wife dancing at a party in OCT, and i sent to my seld and assigned it as the ringtone and removed the assigned picture.

now when she calls it shows her dancing on the screen, she and her friend thought this was COOL

I haven't tried the replacement trick yet, thats NEXT

score points for me

dirkbkr thanks

best way to do it and try it. IT WORKS FOR ME on my chocolate! I made a 5 second video of my computer, saved it, sent it to my phone #, then saved as ringtone and then edited my contact "home" for that ringtone and woo the video showed!!

Thank you very much for testing this, cool feature, wonder how long the phones have been able to do it for, but it's gone un-noticed?

you don't even have to send it,

I copied some vids from the card to the PC

then I used bitpim and put 3 of them in the brew\16542\lk\mr folder ( yeah the ringtones ) and they all work

goto contacts assign the ringer(flix-vid) , makse sure there is NO picture assigned for ID

we don't even have to send them, just copy them into the right folder

remember on the 8100-8300-8500, your have the memory limit problems so don't overload the ringtone folder so you don't brick your phone
