Thanks to klay for starting the thread on how to put custom ringtones on the U740, and to Mark_Venture for planting the seed of how to deal with pictures - They gave me the idea for this.
The procedure to put your own pictures on the phone is a little different, but equally simple:
1. Take as many pictures as you want on the phone with the camera and save them. (Be sure the phone is set to save pictures to the phone, not the card.)
2. Open BitPim and go to /brew/mod/10888 in the filesystem.
3. The pictures you just took will be there and named something like 0219072147.jpg (The names do not matter, you are going to change them later.)
4. Select one of the above files with the number for a name.
5. Right click on it and select Overwrite...
6. A box will open up to allow you to Select A File from your computer.
7. Find the picture file you want and select it, then click on Open.
8. Repeat steps 4,5,6,7 for as many pictures as you want.
9. Right click in the BitPim window and select Reboot Phone.
10. Close BitPim.
11. Turn on your phone and go to Get It Now >> Picture & Video >> 3. My Pictures.
12. The picture you just overwrote the numbered picture with should be there, but it will have the number for a name.
13. Select the picture, and under options (right soft key) select 9. Rename
14. Name it whatever you want.
You can do this for as many pictures as you want on your phone and move them to the card later as well.

I used the move from TF way... and it works..
One at a time is a pain. but it works fine...
I didn't try making use of the OVERWRITE feature of BitPim yet... seems like too much work to take pix, over write one at a time, then rename to something...

I'm sure this is great if you don't have an SD, but if you do it's soooo much easier to just load them to the card and put it in your phone.
Personaly I'll try not to load up the phone memory as much as I can, so I'll have room for the few walls I really like, some ringers, contact pics and apps without bogging the phone down with clutter that'd be better placed in the gigantic expansion card.

That is just it.. I like to put caller ID pix (about 15), a wall paper or two, and my ring tones (about 20) in the Phone's memory.. rest goes on TF card for me...

exactly..the same for me
photo IDs and ringers and a few wallpapers go in the phone memory
music and videos and camera pictures are on the card
Hey guys, Im new here so please excuse my dumb questions:
1. Does using Bitpim require the data cable to upload music/wallpapers?
2. If it does can someone recommend a cable and give me an estimated price?
3. Also does this phone come with the data cable if it is purchased with a upgrade of contract?

Thanks for your help
1. Yes, if you want to specifically use Bitpim, you need the cable. I think it's possible to e-mail ringtones/pictures to yourself, though, but that will cost you $$.
2. I bought my cable on eBay for $7 ($0.01 + $6.99 shipping, I think). It doesn't charge my phone, but it works fine in both Bitpim and VZW music essentials manager (which I downloaded for free from VZW).
3. The phone doesn't come with a cable. Nor does it come with a headset or holster or jacket. A real ripoff, if you ask me. You just get the phone, a battery pack, and a charger.
You can move as many as you want a time (or all of them) from the memory menu:
Go to Menu:Settings & Tools:Memory:Card Memory:My Pictures
Hit Options:Move and then you can select all the ones you want to move to the phone.

Nice find! Thanks. I would have NEVER thought of that.
But I tried it.. Marked All, hit "done" and it didn't move them
Marked less... and hit "done", phone said moving... gave progress, and it moved those that were selected.
WHY ? because the preloaded stuff is part of the FirmWare its NOT in the RAM it can't be removed
Well, using BitPim, I was able to remove it off of my RAZR, so I just figured the same could apply here, just that the folders/subfolders are labeled differently and I wouldn't know where to look.
