Hi Again,
Below is a link to what may be old I760 info to some but possibly new info for others. It also speaks about a possible release date of May - Let's all keep our fingers crossed.

Let me start off by saying I have never used a full windows mobile device, and tried to search, but didn't come up with anything I wanted. I have the Q through work, but I really like the form factor of the new i760. I plan on upgrading around August. I really like the Q since it is considered a phone first, pda second. For those who have made the switch from a smartphone to a device like the i760, what were your first impressions.......did you instantly like it? Take awhile to get used to?
Since I'm not really a "power user" just use it for email from work, and occasionally surfing........maybe 4-5 times a week. Is this just overkill, will you be able to use the i760 like a phone when its closed since it has a dialpad on the front? I just really like the full qwerty since I do send alot of emails/texts.
I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, please post a link if it has :buddies
I went from the SCH-i600 flip phone to the SCH i730. The main thing that I missed was that when you had an appointment the phone would automatically change the sound profile to vibrate, mute, nothing. With WM5, you do that all by hand.
But the main advantage of the full WM5 or WM6 is that you have/had full support for Microsoft Office documents. They(MS I think) have finally ported windows office onto smartphones, but I still would get the full version over the smartphone for the expandability.
Another advantage for smartphones is that they are always smaller...something I wish full WM5 phones would hurry up and get to. I'm tired of carrying "bricks" with me when other carriers have slimmer smaller wm5 devices... CDMA tech is so bulky. I'm really hoping that the i760 is around the size of a blackberry pearl like someone mentioned.
OS X is about the only appealing to me on the iPhone.
The popularity of the iPhone is simply due to the fact that the compiled technology already available into a nice looking device and put an 'I' in front of it.
They're just getting kids and uninformed people that think that touchscreens and large hard drives are so cool and innovative and that the iPhone is the only thing offering that. I know few people that actually recognize that the iPhone isn't that amazing but they want it for the things that actually make sense. I.E. Multi-Touch, OS X, Apple computer synchronization, ability to work well with all their other iTunes stuff, etc.
Basically, you could take a regular couch and called it iSofa and it would have people flocking to it.
But at least Verizon realizes it and is marketing this thing well. They're hoping it catches peoples' attention and they realize "Hey, other phones have touchscreens, are small, and look good."
I am sorry but I dont share the same sentiments as you. If there's anything Apple is really good at, it is their user interface. Apple's success since founding has been built from the company's ability to make complicated products easy to use. It's hard to imagine Apple will drop the ball on the iphone. It's too early to tell yet. I will wait until the iPhone is out then make a final decision. The iphone does provide a touch screen keyboard and whether this is easy to use we will have to wait. What really impressed me is the safari browser. It allows you to view regular webpages in its original format and to browse through pages without excessive scrolling. (It loads the entire page and then zooms into the area of interest.) All other phones on the market either scramble up the content or user will have to visit PDA safe pages.
I don't like Apple's pricing though but I believe they are targeting a niche market. Cell phones to me are disposable items and I don't want to spend 500 dollar every two years on a phone. That's a barebone Dell PC every 2 years.
Vzw did not take iPhone because Apple wanted in on service revenue as well and Vzw wasn't ready to give up its share of the profit. I believe business week mentioned apple wanted to controlled the service fee through something similar to itunes.

My Samsung i730 views regular web pages just fine.
And it zooms. (I use the preloaded MITs Picsel Browser)

Actually I thought it was their ability to offer sub par products at excesive prices and convince the average idiot that they need their crap! Yea try looking at all the choices you have when upgrading your apple PC compared to IMB. Better yet buy a Ipod with a 4GB drive with a proprietary crap OS that forces you to use Itunes and restricts your ability to load MP3s for the same price as any other 10-20GB MP3 player that you can drop and drag any MP3 on to. Actually Apple is good at giving enough PC's to the schools in hopes of capturing youngsters who are less knowledgable and thus become hooked at a young age. I think buyers of the Iphone should be required to have that stamped upon their foreheads so we can all laugh and monitor the gene pool!

This is my last post on apple before we get too far off topic. It isn't up to Apple to decide what copyright protection it offers on its Itunes program. In fact, Steve Jobs has asked the music industry to allow copyright free music for years. He or his cohorts understand the protection is a hassle to user. Earlier this year he convinced EMI to allow all EMI music be distributed copyright protection free. Here's a link to the news. (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/04/02itunes.html) Now any EMI music can be transfer to any other user's device the once user has purchased an original copy. Can't blame Apple for its annoying DRM protection because it is forced by the music industry to enforce it.
Second, I shelled out dearly for a Macbook Pro last year because it fitted my needs, but not because it's a fashion statement. I wanted an OS that's Unix based (Mac OS is derived from Free BSD which is not propietory.), yet with an user friendly GUI. Redhat and Debian have come close to offer an OS with easy to use GUI but they aren't quite there yet. Now I can dual boot my Mac with Mac OS and Windows XP.
I agree apple does charge a huge premium on its products but one can hardly blame it. Apple is trying to run a business here. If any other mp3 player companys, iRiver, Samsung, Creative Sandisc, can knock Apple off of its throne, I guarentee those company will start charging more for their products to increase profit margins. They aren't selling at a low price for philanthropy reasons but to gain market share over Apple.
If you are a bargain hunter then of course the other choices make more sense but each to his own. Just like some people prefer to drive BMW and Porsche yet other wants more bang for the buck and opt for Nissan or Honda.

Thanks for the information. I have to check it out when the new samsung comes out. Just trying to keep an open mind here instead of Apple = evil and rest = good

Ok then why do all the other windows based MP3 players allow you to drop and drag music onto your devise without the protection hassel? Why is it only apple that has this crap? Also, although the price is somewhat affected by Apple's market share, the other reason they are cheaper is because there is competition. (Just like when you buy IBM PC stuff)
Secondly you can't compare a BMW to a honda or Nissan (Owned 03 525i and 04 530i) as an example of Apple to IBM. clearly the BMW's are better products. (Apple isn't which is why I raised the point) If you want to compare them say when you buy Apple, it's like buying a Honda but paying for a BMW! That exactly the point I made. when you buy a
Apple you get less and you have more headaches but you pay more! I've never had a problem with spending more so long as I am getting more for my money! Lastly regarding Porche....I owned a 2000 vette with performance numbers that exceeding the porche but at far less price. Granted the fit and finish on the vette don't compare with the Porche's however I figured when buying a sports car, I'd actually make a decision based upon performance rather than looks. If you have the chance buy a C5,they are a hell of a lot of fun to drive. If you have the balls, add NOS.....it's lot like meeting a pretty girl with an STD.......you know you want to hit it but you're afraid of the consequences!
