It seems Verizon is raising rates, and notified people about new international calling rates. Doesn't sound like a sure bet to me...but it's worth a shot.
That page tells you about the rate hike, and even provides links to scripts and such that can help you get out of your contract.
Before everyone gets worked up in a tizzy NO IT'S NOT. Long distance rates are subject to change and NOT contracted. Show me anywhere in your contract where it spells out the price for long distance calls to foreign countires and guarantees the rate? Heck, even VOIP, landline, cable co's frequently change LD rates as these are highly volitile depending on the regulations of the specific country. In this case, it appears that Mexico is charging higher rates now. The only people that might, at the mercy f Verizon, have a case would be people enrolled in this specific feature option. If people have never called Mexico before, forget it. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

I agree this will not be someone people can use to end without ETF... BUT those you pointed out also do not make you sign a contract for landline or cable (and VOIP didn't until about a year ago) so IMO that is a different case.

I have subscribed to Vonage since 2003, and I was always locked into a contract with them. I also agree this is an increase the government of Mexico did, not VZW. It is not fair to pass along that increase to consumers? I beg to differ. Right now the oil companies are raising the prices per barrel. Its not right to pass that along to the consumer too?
For those who think every other call to VZW customer service will be people trying to cancel without an ETF because of this also think again. I fielded ONE call for the ETF because of the text message increase, and ultimately he was shot down too because he had a text message package and was also over 30 days past due on his account. This will not even register as a blip on the radar.

That would be great!
What? When I signed up for my contract, it showed PR as a "In" coverage area on the big red map. I'm going to PR end of Aug am I going to have to pay 69 cents/per min?
It's this kind of article that makes me really dislike theconsumerist.com Verizon is only passing on the charges being levied by the Mexico government. Why in the world would you think you can cancel a contract with an American company because of a charge from a foreign government? It's irresponsible to post this representing it as truth.
I have a cellular calling plan which I call Boston's # then the international # after a pause. It only cost 3 cents a minute to call Asia. I have American Choice so calling Boston doesn't cost me any long distant fee just use my minutes which we have plenty.

Enjoy!
mannnn ?
another thread about getting out of a contract that was freely signed because someone else raised a rate and so the consumer pays.
Jiminy Christmas why dont some folks just port and
do these same folks think that EVERYONE thats a cell customer on any carrier are all Hofo subscibers too? Red UI,locked Bluetooth, increase in texts, now Mexico needs some more $ because they are actually trying to get legit and so we pay and here we go again with another " I want out for nuthin' " thread.
the only folks this will REALLY bother will be the illegal aliens calling back to Mexico to tell the next load "come on over" and I doubt they will bother trying to get out of contract because it might alert the INS
sorry I had a bad day at work
