QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q. How do existing BIS customers upgrade to BIS 2.3? [/b]

A. Existing customers on the BIS 2 platform are automatically upgraded to BIS 2.3. No user interaction is required. Please ask customers who are still on BIS 1.8 to call 1-866-931-DATA (3292) to upgrade from BIS 1.8 to BIS 2.3.

Q. How much does the BIS 2.3 service cost?

A. BIS 2.3 is available at no additional charge to customers who activate a BlackBerry with a monthly Blackberry E-mail Plan or BlackBerry Voice & E-mail Package.

Q. What improvements have been made to Rogers Yahoo! (@rogers.com) and Yahoo! Mail (@yahoo.com or @yahoo.ca) e-mail account integration?

Customers using a Rogers Yahoo! or Yahoo! Mail account will benefit from advanced, time-saving message management features: Two-way, synchronization of deletes to and from their inbox, as well as two-way, virtual real-time synchronization of message status (read/unread). That means that when customers delete a message from their Rogers Yahoo! or Yahoo! Mail account, the message is also deleted on their BlackBerry smartphone (and vice-versa). And when they read a message on their BlackBerry smartphone, the message is immediately marked ‘read’ in their Rogers Yahoo! or Yahoo! Mail account. There’s no need to manage messages twice.

This feature is available to all BlackBerry and BlackBerry Connect (Nokia E62) customers.

Q. What improvements have been to Google Gmail email account integration?

A. Customers using a Google Gmail account are no longer required to enable Post Office Protocol (POP) before integrating their Gmail account with BIS.

This feature is available to all BlackBerry and BlackBerry Connect (Nokia E62) customers.

Q. What is auto-forwarding?

A. Now, customers can have a copy of e-mail messages that are sent to their smartphone-based BlackBerry e-mail address (i.e. username@rogers.blackberry.net) automatically forwarded to another third-party web mail account (such as Rogers Yahoo! or Google Gmail). This feature is ideal when customers need easy access to e-mail sent to their BlackBerry e-mail address, from a desktop browser as well. Auto-forwarding can be set for all incoming messages, or just messages with attachments.

This feature is available to all BlackBerry and BlackBerry Connect (Nokia E62) customers.

Q. What are Delivery and Read Receipts?

A. Customers will have the ability to know when an e-mail message has been successfully delivered and read to another user’s BlackBerry smartphone. If the Sender and Recipients have enabled this Delivery Status Notification, a “D” will appear over the sent message checkmark in the message list of the Sender when the message has been successfully delivered to all or some of the Recipients. The Sender can open this sent message to view which Recipients have received the message. Users can enable this feature in the Messages application by selecting Options/Email Settings and changing the status of Delivery Receipts to “Yes”.

Also, when a message has been read by the recipient, an “R” will appear over the sent message checkmark in the message list of the Sender when the message has been successfully read by all or by some of the Recipients. The Sender can open this sent message to view which Recipients have read the message. Users can enable this feature in the Messages application by selecting Options/E-mail Settings and changing the status of Confirm Read to “Yes”. Message recipients will then have the option to configure (Send Read Receipts) to: (a) always send read confirmations, (b) never send read confirmations, or (c) always be prompted for each message received.

Note: This feature is only available on BlackBerry devices that are operating with 4.2 Handheld Code or later (BlackBerry Pearl ä , BlackBerry 8800, and the upcoming BlackBerry Curve ä ).

Q. What are the new enhanced attachment services available in BIS 2.3?

A. With BlS 2.3, customers can view popular attachment formats on the move, including JPEG, BMP, TIFF, RTF, Microsoft ® Word, Excel and PowerPoint ®, Corel WordPerfect and Adobe PDF. And now, PowerPoint presentations and PDFs can be viewed in a convenient slideshow format.

Customers can attach files up to 3MB in size stored on their BlackBerry Pearl, 8800, or Curve smartphone (i.e., pictures saved to the smartphone internal memory or documents saved to the expandable memory card) to email or MMS messages. Now, customers don’t have to wait until they’re at their desk to upload and send files to friends, family and colleagues.

Customers who get voicemail messages from work or home sent as e-mail attachments (mp3 and WAV files up to 500 KB in size) can listen to these messages virtually anywhere, which makes it even easier to stay up-to-speed and responsive throughout the day.

Note: These features are only available on BlackBerry devices that are operating with 4.2 Handheld Code or later (BlackBerry Pearl , BlackBerry 8800, and the upcoming BlackBerry Curve). Also, all attachments that are downloaded or uploaded by customers will be applied to their monthly data plan usage.

Q. What additional languages are supported on BIS 2.3?

A. When accessing the BIS login and administration page from your BlackBerry or BlackBerry Connect device, BlS 2.3 supports: English, French, Italian, German, Greek, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Czech, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (European), Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian and Turkish.

And for e-mail messages, BlS 2.3 supports the display of characters in the following languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Afrikaans, Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (European), Russian, Swedish and Turkish.

Plus, language selection can now be made right from the log-in screen (rogers.com/bis), so customers can proceed with the set-up process in the language of their choice.

Q. What additional organizer functionality is available in BIS 2.3?

A. Customers can now save even more time each day by sending, receiving, accepting and declining wireless meeting requests (iCal format) on their BlackBerry. Also, customers can open electronic contact attachments (vCard format) using their BlackBerry. They can also add these contact details directly to their BlackBerry Address Book and even attach an address from their BlackBerry Address Book to any email they send.

Sweet! Now I can have my @fido.blackberry.com emails sent to my @fidohiptop.ca address! My work pays for the BB option, and I use the hiptop for personal use...so now I could have both delivered to one device!

This may seem like a silly question, but how can you tell what version of BIS you are using? I could not find anything on my Pearl, nor when logging in to the BIS server.
