Dallas V3a Firmware & Carrier?

Hello All!

Just got a Motorola RAZR V3a from Alltel yesterday. I was so excited about this new phone. Until I found out that it:

- Does NOT Have 1x-EVDO
- Has a nasty glitch with the alarm clock
- Has No Transflash Card Slot.
- Has Celltop (and the locked left soft key)

Is Alltel the only carrier that sells the V3a? If not, where could I find other flash/flex/Monsters for it?

If so, I have heard that the V3a and V3c are pretty similar hardwarewise. Could I reflash it with V3c firmware to regain that capability? The guy I spoke to at Alltel Tech (surprisingly knowledgeable) said that it only supports 1x-RTT, but if I were able to reflash it, it should work just fine.

I'm not necessarily an amateur at flashing these phones, just an amateur at finding the files. Any CDMA carrier will work. That includes, I believe, Verizon, Telus, Bell Mobility, US Cellular, MetroPCS, and any others if I missed them.

Thanks!

Scott

so if it isn't the MSM6500 what is it?

The specs sound like the MSM6000, but that is an antique.

Although I don't think you can cross-flash a V3c and V3m to begin with.

Arrow MetroPCS sells the V3a

I know initially it was only available thru Alltel and Metro. It is a pretty neutered version of the phone and it V3a is totally different than the previous V3's. Do not try and flash with the c or m version files or you will have big troubles!

One positive note, here is a link to the metroPCS V3a monster file:
http://rapidshare.com/files/6223193...TER_01.rar.html

Just so you know and whomever else might want to try reflashing it; I don't have the Alltel version monster foir the V3a and I haven't seen it floating around or referred to. So, if you might ever need to go back, you can't at the moment. Also, make sure and get all of your data setting for WAP and MMS first and backup the prl and eri to put back on or you will go thru headaches and grief.
Oh and just in case someone ends up thinking aboutasking the NAM programming menu is accessed by:
[clr] 073887*
then you need to know your 6 digit MSL/SPC code

You might want to take the time to backup the panic data file with PST 7.2.5 first as well. Usually not an issue, but God help you if you do need it or some screws up!

The older V3c and V3m models are based on Qualcomm's MSM6500 and the RAM Downloader versions are all between v0x000108 & 0x00010C.

The new V3a models are based on Qualcomm's MSM6100 and the RAM Downloader versions are all v0x00010A at least for right now. While they are compatible RAM DLers, totally different cheaper and incompatible chiopsets!

The RAM DLer v0x00010C seems to cause troubles flashing away from under certain circumstance or choice of flash file.
The RAM DLer v0x000108 is an earlier one only used for VIVO and Moviestar down in Brazil and Venezula. No comment due to no experience.

The versions below are the oddballs that are always going to be real potenial troubles. In other words, these are definitely the BRICK makers!
-------------------
Verizon's V3c Pink 01.18.05 is RAM DL v0x000111
Verizon's V3m 01.19.05P is RAM DL v0x000013
Sprint V3M 00.43.00P is RAM DL v0x000006
Sprint V3M 00.48.03P is RAM DL v0x000008
Sprint V3MRED 00.48.03P is RAM DL v0x000008

A lot of extra info not related exactly but should be helpful.

BOTTOM LINE: V3a files ONLY for V3a phones, or you may and quite probably will be sorry. Some have gooten away with it, and then found doing the exact same thing for the 3rd or 4th time FxxxS upyour phone.

PS - If anyone out there has the Alltel V3a monster or upgrade file, I would very much appreciate a copy it as I don't have it or have not seen it. THX.

OK here's an update on the situation. I thought maybe the V325 from Verizon might be an identical phone. I accidentally downloaded a V325i flash (which is an MSM6500 phone, just like the V3c, V3m, and E815,) and subsequently bricked my first phone. I did recover it with a metroPCS flash for the V3a, but now can not use my Mobile Web or Axcess. Anybody got either:

- Alltel V3a Monster
- Verizon V325 Monster
- Anything MSM6100 for Verizon or Any Other Carrier than MetroPCS

Thank Y'all!

I am amazed to learn the MSM6100 is still being made, that is one step from the rock bottom MSM6050.

I don't know how far you got with fixing things, but a software update was released quite a while ago to fix the alarm clock issue, and I did a write up not long ago about changing the celltop softkey to something else, just like the other softkey's. No EVDO and no transflash aren't things that can be changed with a flash, so hopefully you can fix the other two things.

Wow, so this isnt a problem amonst my small circle of people . I'm suffering with the same issue concerning a friends phone since really we just want to downgrade the firmware but now that I read this (thank god) I'll be rethinking that .

hey Scottmac, just for information purposes tell me;

How did you exactly get it working on the MetroPC flash ? I mean was it as simple as backing up all your information and settings and then writing that info into the newly flashed phone ?

I actually didn't back anything up. That's the problem. I now have it on Cricket's V3a monster, and an Alltel Web Sessions, 1xRTT Data and Browser file, and ERI that I got from my mom's V3a (unmodified). That is why I was wondering if I could use Flash & Backup to get my mom's Alltel flash and put it on mine.

I modified the CG locations and other things, but it still won't use my (or her) phone. You people don't know how much I want this thing back on Alltel! All I have is problems now! And what does a panic data file do? I put DO PANIC on the test mode, it flashed a screen with some vertical lines and the word PANIC! on it, then it rebooted.

I went into the Artesia, NM, Alltel store to try and have it reflashed back. After the lead lady at the store BSing with me for about 15 minutes, she called TS, reported to them what "horrible damage" had been done to my phone. They said that they don't want to reflash it, because they were afraid that it would "fry" the phone. I shook my head, said thank you, and walked out. I hate Alltel now. I so wish that Verizon would get some better coverage down here so I could get with them, and get a good V3m!
