My impression 24 Hours later....
I am going to put the reasons why I will be returning the phone in 3 weeks(going to see what att/iphone has going on). Here I go....
1. First off out the gate. The back of the phone was a b*tch to get off while i was trying to call sprint to activate the phone.
2. I downloaded a 30sec mp3 ringtone(soprano) and assigned it to my messages only. When i tested VOICEMAIL the soprano ringtone rang not the stock one included in the phone. Of course when i went back to the stock for messages the stock for voicemail worked(yes I tested txt and soprano rang so it was fine there).
3. Number 2 leads me here. There is NO WAY to change the ringtone for any email app included in the phone. It reverts back to your message ringer. So EVERY time i get a txt, email and voicemail I wont know which is which...
4. Email: I have ALL of my emails forwarded to GMAIL. I have set up labels so that it is better organized. The gmail on this phone does not offer the ability to see my labels only inbox.
5. BROWSER: I dont even have to talk about this. Try going to THIS site from your instinct...I think they pulled this one out of a cracker jack box! It is just horrible. I was getting errors on google pages.....
6. REV A: I saw in a post here where the blackberry browser is faster. I do have to AGREE! My 8830 blows this one away...So i ask. Where is the speed? I am in a REV A area....See map of rainy south FLA!
7. I set a photo as a background and sometimes it goes black and vanishes...I have to do it over....
8. The call quality is ok but I can tell the difference from phones.
9. Where are the apps? Rss reader, Opera mini(for obvious reasons), gmail mobile....IM APP???
10. I called customer service today to find out how I return the phone and got a young lady. She politely told me that going from a BB to the instinct wasn't a good choice. She also mentioned NO FIRMWARE is coming anytime soon. The phone is not a PDA. With that I said "I thought this was the iphone killer." She laughed a little and said I am sorry you dont like the phone. You can return it to any sprint store.....I asked her if alot of people are returning the phones. She said she didnt know. I would like to see those numbers!
11. Forgot one...The battery life. I was using the phone for about 4 hrs last night then charged it over night. Today I got to mess with it more starting at 10am...by 2pm the battery was drained half way...
So in 3 weeks after the rush settles down I'll be switching carriers and getting an Iphone. Its been a good long 13 or so years with sprint but they blew it here.....
If anyone know the fixes to any of my issues please let me know besides the obvious one of going back to my BB 8830 and "waiting".
I can see why you would return it..but for the iPhone? The new one doesn't have video recording nor does it have the ability to send/recieve videos or pictures.
Also it does not have live tv or radio.
No removable battery, so at least you can take the batter out of the Instinct.
The Instinct comes with TWO batteries, smartest move ever by samsung!
Also the Instinct hasn't even been out for a month yet so give it time to get the apps together.
How long did it take Apple to get 3rd party apps on the iPhone. Almost a year since the release of the first iPhone and they're just now getting the hint.
So as you may not like the Instinct you may want to consider what you wont get when the new iPhone comes out
I enjoy the phone, but my issue is the browser and I am willing to give them some time to send out and update or maybe even Opera Mini to wow me on Rev A. I can see why some people don't like it, or compare it to the iPhone. That was Sprint's doing though cause of the way they advertised it. Shouldn't have ever said it was an iPhone killer.

LOL, very true. iPhone's 3rd party possibilities seem to be a popular catch phrase around HoFo. How long did it take everyone to forget that the iPhone's 3rd party support was virtually non existent in its infancy.
Anyway, I had many, MANY reservations about the Instinct prior to purchasing, but I dig it now. It'll be my phone of choice till the Touch Pro rolls around.

I read that this was coming to ATT(mms)
When I get the time for the tv...radio maybe..
Sprint should have got this hint from day 1!! (About the apps)
Well they apparently didn't but at least they're working on some pretty cool apps. And yes, I am 100% positive that MMS will NOT be on the new iPhone.
I myself don't have a lot of time to watch tv or listen to the radio on my phone, but its nice to know I have it so when I get bored somewhere it gives me something to do.
Very good complaints.....I actually complain about a few you posted. I, like you, want an iphone and may take back IF and ONLY IF att has a plan that can match my everything plan. Price wise. I hate the fact there is no video or nav on iPhone.
4. Email: I have ALL of my emails forwarded to GMAIL. I have set up labels so that it is better organized. The gmail on this phone does not offer the ability to see my labels only inbox.
On the gmail labels, do the other phones with integrated push email display your labels either? I wouldn't think that the iphone or blackberry would display them either. I could be wrong though.
I agree with you about the battery life and the battery cover. Dang, even some of my coworkers couldn't get that thing off!!!! I finally got the hang of it but I was going to shuttle it right back to the store if I couldn't get the back off... kind of a deal breaker since they included two batteries.
I do agree that battery life is sucky but isn't that kind of par for the course for this type of phone? I test drove an iphone when it first came out (1st generation) and man, the battery SUCKED. It was just terrible.
The main thing I think that the iphone has over the Instinct is screen size. They (Sprint/Samsung) have configured the browser so that you get probably 3" or less actual screen size while browsing. The iPhone has a bit bigger screen to begin with, and since they actually use it for the browser, that's definitely a better experience IMO. If they come out with Opera for the Instinct I'll be all over it like a cheap suit! I got this phone mainly for browsing purposes, so it's a big deal to me.
For those two reasons, I would consider going to the iPhone and returning my Instinct... however, I get unlimited everything with Sprint for $99 and the same plan would cost either $135 or $150 with AT&T (can't tell which, it's a bit confusing on their site), which is substantially more each month.
I just can't justify that increased cost. I cringe to think of having to call Sprint for any customer service, but to be honest all of the carriers have sucky technical support IMO, it's more a matter of who sucks the worst. That's just my experience.

I am thinking of going with the Instinct, but I guess I need to go to the store and play with it first. I am kinda of tired with my HTC Touch and HTC Mogul already. Been using the TOUCH since its faster
My battery life is good - I even run the music player while im at work, make a few calls and txt msg at work - my battery only goes to maybe 80% - Im happy, everything else will fall into place when they do some tweaking here and there.. 1up Samsung

I can add one more thing. I downloaded a ringer for my txt messages. It rings for my voice mail ringer even though the ringer is set to something else..
