Um.. is anyone else's E71 like this?

When they keypad's backlight comes on, there seems to be a gap between the top of the keypad and start of the glass, and there's a thin jagged section of light along the width of the phone. Sorry about the terrible photo, i had to take it in darkness with no flash to show you what i meant, but you can kind of see it. It looks a lot worse in real life though. Is anyone else's phone like this? I was really surprised because everyone went on about how fantastic the build quality was but this makes it look pretty poor.

It wouldn't bother me so much if the section of light was neat and straight, but it really just makes it look like it wasn't properly assembled or something.

I just bought the Nokia E71-2, here in Southern California. I have had it for the past two days, and I am just so impressed with the quality of the phone; from software to just the build quality of how it feels in your hand. Only reason I am replying right now, is I have the EXACT same problem as you. Under my space bar, to the right where there is a gap from the keyboard to the start of the metal frame, there is a huge brightness of a light that lights up the whole keyboard, coming from that one side. As well as from your pictures, I have something just as similar. I already called the store, and they are sending it to the distributor of Nokia, which they say is located also some were in LA. They will get a new one back in, because the store just bought the phone on the 29th of August. That's a big sigh of relief; cause the fact of not having to wait for the new one to come in. I hope you figure your situation out also, but I am sure you just got the phone; register your phone on Nokia's website, call them and their warranty department I am sure will be able to take care of it. Keep us updated! Thanks.

I've got the same thing, but mine's a review unit and I'll be sending it back soon. Everything else is solid though.

Thanks for pointing that out.

My friend from New York, that's where I first saw the E71 in person, had nothing like what is compared to the person that posted the image above. The first thing I noticed was what was with the lights all unevenly around the keyboard and gaps when I started the phone up. Nothing big to me, you can always turn the back lights off right? Sad to say, that isn't the point. Don't get me wrong, this phone has blown me away; my money went straight to the Nokia E71 before the blackberry bold even came out, since I have been a bb user for quite awhile now. The last Nokia phone I purchased was the Nokia 7260. I don't know where I have been all these days, but friends and family that have seen this phone, and are really considering leaving there blackberry's to switch to this. Of course my family and friends are all in their own business savvy ways; but I don't believe this phone was made for the intentions to be sold to the general public themselves, (iPhone). Cheers.

Right on, true do a search there are many threads. Has anyone actually contacted Nokia warranty department and asked why its like this? I guess the only reason I am taking my phone back now is because of the dead pixel on it.

Its on all the phones, this allows dust between the LCD and the outer screen. Tried out several E71s at the store and they all have the problem . You can however psh your keypad up to reduce the light leak but I doubt it'll have any effect on dust entering the LCD.

Ive got a dead pixel as well , but Nokia claim that I can exchange it only 2 days after purchase. Now I need to send it in for repairs that can take upto 8 days, which really is'nt an option for me. SO I guess I'm stuck iwth the dead pixel..

If not for these tiny problems its hell of an awesome phone lol

You should try Fring and Coreplayer as well. Just amazing. I get VGA @ 25fps playback flawlessly with coreplayer.

Do you know by any chance that if I buy the app. and then install it. When I backup everything on Nokia Suite, does it save everything including apps. on it? So when the new phone comes in when I send the old one out, I can just do the restore and it will put everything how it originally was?
