Bell Will Be El Mess-o With the Free GPS-o

In the coming weeks Bell will be making GPS satellite locks performed by free/3rd party apps* take 2-10 minutes instead of the standard 15-20 seconds to make GPSNav [Sold separately] look like a better product with it's 15-20 second GPS lock.

* Blackberry Maps, Google Maps, etc.

The following phones are affected:
• BlackBerry 8830 World Edition.
• BlackBerry 8130 Pearl.
• BlackBerry 8330 Curve.

Various quotes include:
"Clients should be using GPS Nav from Bell Mobility"
"High quality locates are only available by using GPS Nav"

How can they enforce this? Would assume they would need to release a new radio, not that it effects me it looks like crackberries only.

If they disable BB maps, or make the app functionally unusable.....then I will finally give Bell the boot. The 'effen app comes with the device for christ sake Bell really doesnt get it do they Either that or there better be a lot of promos for free GPSNav. Does Bell really want to lose $95 ARPU clients on purpose?

Theoretically they would remove BB maps (same way Orange does in the UK) on any future shipments

OMG you can't be serious?!

I can't see how that'll help sales. I will most certainly dump Bell if this begins to affect me. And they can eat the ECF....

it looks like the bean counters who provide you with "valuable scripting" to avoid being punched in the face still can't write anything you can actually use.

i mean, seriously, can't they just be honest??...revised scripting:

"GPS Fees are charged by Bell to help pay for the network and the ongoing software, technology and other upgrades to that network. Generally, the higher the fee, the greater the opportunity to invest in network quality to enhance your experience. Just one more reason to choose Bell. "
