if you are in a "proposed" divestiture market, (i understand it COULD change, but theoretically), could you change your number to an area which isn't part of the proposed divestiture and be able to go to VZW instead of someone else? any insight?
(for example the Lenoir, Hickory, Morganton NC market was recently added to the list....if i changed my number from that area to a charlotte number)
do we have any info on the potential companies that will be wanting to acquire these divested areas?
possible guess and this is just for the Illinois and Kansas areas, but USCC would be my first choice if I was in charge of the deal. Just so as long as they would honor our Alltel contracts/Plans and the like.. but I'm just about at the point where I'm wanting some official annoucements if they can on companies, so that we can do our thorough research on who will be taking over our lines and towers...
well, at least verizon is being smart and using the alltel network in minnesota and nebraska. The unicel in minnesota on I90 is very weak, most time 1 to 2 bars if that. alltel is superior in both areas.
Thanks for the map Shango6. The new Alltel areas considered for divestment make sense. I'm just thrilled that I'm still firmly in a proposed divested area. But I too wish I had more of an idea of who was interested in my market but that's why I keep my eye on the situation on hofo

I have a feeling Comnet will end up with some of this. What company would buy that red chuck in AZ? Its customer would be roaming if they go 10 miles East or West.

Areas where Verizon is trying to keep both cellular licenses haven't been finalized yet. Those are areas they're not willing to divest voluntarily. I noticed that one CMA in Northern Minnestota that Verizon marked for divesture, is an area where that CMA is split between AT&T & Alltel for the A side, while the B side that they hold now is fully intact. If Verizon is willing to hold onto the entire CMA, then they should only fill in what Alltel holds now. I don't know what CMA it is in SE Minnesota, but Alltel already holds both cellular licenses. It's anyone's guess if the FCC will allow Verizon to acquire both licenses, or if one of them will have to be divested.
I also noticed another CMA In Nebraska where Verizon doesn't even hold a cellular license, but they marked it for divesture, but it's marked as their own network. If there's even a network, it's a PCS network in that area. But why would they even mark it as a divesture area? I wonder if it's an area that is considered too rural for them, or if that was an error.
I say in areas of Michigan where Verizon holds the A side & Alltel the B side will involve divestures. Though there are plenty of competitors in Grand Rapids, I still can't see Verizon keeping both licenses.
I believe divesting the Unicel network in Kansas would be a smart move, as they wouldn't have to spend additional money to overlay the network with CDMA. The 4 CMA's in southern Minnesota that Alltel divested to Unicel are the same 4 CMA's that Verizon now wants to divest. If the FCC allows Verizon to divest the Unicel network there, that won't make people happy who might be under contract, as they would be divested (possibly again), and that network changes hands again.

The divestments in KS (and by extension, CO), NC, and possibly SC would fit in perfect with uscc's existing properties. The one in NE would likely be an overlap, but could be of interest.

i'm hoping that the area of nc that covers hickory if it is divested goes to uscc. i really don't mind at this point staying with verizon but if i have to go to someone else i hope it is uscc, from most of the things i've heard about them they seem like a company that values their customers much like alltel. verizon always comes off to me like they are doing you a favor and if we go to at&t i'll be looking for more bars in more places and i'll probably never find the internet!

what is this new feature, and how can I manipulate it in order to make myself seem superior to those around me?
There are certainly some great possibilities for USCC if they have access to enough cash to pick up most of those divestitures. That is especially true since there would be no technology overlays to do and for USCC the evdo buildout would be a bonus.
