N96 After 2 months use

I have to say that overall I am impressed with my new N96. Lots of improvements over the N95 but hardly worth the price tag.
BUT, and it is a big BUT, why has Nokia decided to produce the first ever slider phone (to my knowledge) that does not cut the connection on closing the slide? I have enquired at Nokia service centres, it is not an option. Maybe Nokia will fix this oversight with new firmware soon, or someone will come up with a downloadable fix. In the meantime, N96 users, make sure you press that red button before you start cursing the last caller.

That is weird because the even the N85 has options to keep the call when the slider is closed or to end the call.

It is nowhere in options?

I don't get it either, such a no brainer. My 95-4 is the same way. One more reason I prefer my e66 over it.

It's not the first ever since none of the N95s do it.

That's so weird, the N81 has the option in settings called Slide Handling, i thought all FP2 Slider phones would have it.

I use an app called slide helper, it will end the call, lock the keys, and turn off the backlight when sliding phone to the closed position, while receiving a call, sliding the phone open the other way (multimedia keys showing) lets you answer with the phone automatically with loudspeaker on, very useful little app, works great on the N95, don't know if the N96 is supported, its worth a shot though

I too think that this (along with the OPTION for auto-screen rotation of the N95-4) should be a feature of the OS and not something you have to go get an app for. I have posted to S60.com for a feature request for just this thing, I suggest you do the same, so hopefully Nokia gets a clue.

Ending a call with the slider just seems SO intuitive, it REALLY should be in there, but with the option to turn off as well.

I use ShutUp by bySamir, and it seems to work fine, I'll have to take a look at SliderHelper.

Well those features are on the S40 phones like the 6270 and 6280..

I think the N95-2 got it in FW but not the N95-4. The end call option is on every N95 variant, but probably got left out in the N96 FW. They are so sloppy with things like that at Nokia. The FW release to fix it may come out sometime next year so get used to it.

Oops, sorry you have a Euro version. Your FW release will be in December, if you get the upcoming NAM N96 the bug will be fixed after the successor to the N96 comes out. But that will have its own set of bugs, oversights, and sloppy coding. So wait patiently. Your help will come in 2009! In any case it's not a big deal at all sometimes even the best companies regress in functionality it's normal.

None of the N95s have an option to end the call by closing the slider. You have to press the end call key on them all.
