The Official Storm Wallpaper Thread
In over-anticipation of the upcoming Storm release, I've spent a little time putting together some wallpapers. Much of what I'm posting is simple resizing and minor alterations to already existing designs. Others are pictures I've taken personally -- and while not spectacular I did want to share.
Storm Wallpaper Basics:
Screen size is 480 x 360.
The top "status area" on the phone is approximately 97 pixels. This area is semi-transparent with text overlays.
The first row of icons are up 96 pixels from the bottom of the screen. Semi-transparent.
The second row of icons are up 191 pixels from the bottom of the screen. Likewise semi-transparent
I know these numbers don't perfectly match, while I'm confident they are within 1-pixel of accuracy, I'll update them as needed after some hands-on testing.
Additional Information:
I placed guidebars in my template file at 97 (for the top), 288 (for 2-row icon layout) and 383 (for 1-row icon layout). This is in GIMP where the file starts at pixel 0.
If creating a graphic from scratch, you may want to keep important parts of the picture outsize of the top and bottom 96-pixel zones.
Some stylistic options include blurring the areas underneath the OS overlay, lowering the opacity, or giving it a different shade/color.
If you are trying hard to preserve a picture that is wider than taller, you can put "letterboxing" strips 96 pixels at the top and bottom. While black will work, having a complimentary color (see the Penguins logo below) works great.

Pictures of lightning, good idea! Unfortunately there's one I can't post.. it's a picture of the tower at my station getting hit, but I don't have the rights to post it.

For some reason, I'm partial to pics of lightning......

Here's round two! A couple of notes. The Pittsburgh pics in post #1 were taking by me on a boat, which is why they are a little blurry. The ones in this post are from better quality originals. Same with the Beaver Stadium picture. Oh, and I'm starting to get a little too happy with filters.
