omg this Storm is getting me so frustrated...

Before I begin.

I had the Dare prior to this, and I don't need to hear replies from blackberry fan boys saying "baby kiddie dumb phone blah blah blah"

Problems and my complaints:

1)I have yet been able to click on any link on a web page, it just zooms in, freezes, locks up, highlights the link, and does not click no matter how long or how fast i click down on the screen.

2)Texting has been a nightmare, maybe I'm not used to the predictive typing but it just fills in the word when it's not what i want even when scrolling down to pick it, sometimes the word isn't even there.

2a) Need to put in a numeric password or text? Forget about it in landscape mode. Constantly pressing "123" after each number. Ugh.

3) LAG. Comparing this to my lagless Dare. Between apps, Even with apps closed. Is there a way to close the other apps? The usual ones seem to always be open I guess by default.

4) Phone book layout. Terrible. Unlike the iphone, dare, instinct, or any other touch screen phone, There's no ABCDE...XYZ to scroll to a contact. So I always have to search by letter.

5) Browsing. You can't click on the bar to rapid scroll to the bottom of a page. You have to keep flick scrolling until you get to the bottom.

6) The top mute button and volume rocker buttons only appear to work during a call. They don't zoom in or out while using the browser or camera nor do they adjust ringer volume.

7) Accelerometer (lag part II) Wow how annoying is this... It'll be on the smallest angle, and the screen will stay like that even if the phone is level. You can try adjusting "key rate" to fast. But it's still annoying to grab the phone out of your pocket or wherever, and see it sideways, waiting for it to go back.

8) When you're done typing a text, you cannot simply press the send key. You have to go into the menu to send it.

9) When clicking on something, you have to be above it to click on what you want to click on in a menu. (unless you have tiny pointy fingers)

I'm sure there are other things about this phone that I'm forgetting. But I'm ready to return this, I'll give it a few days, maybe some of you guys can help me correct the problems I seem to be having, and it won't turn out too bad.

Like I said, I had the Dare before hand, the email, browsing, and google map hack worked fine for me, The music player on it sucked. But I was still able to see the letters I was typing.

Any HELP and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Software update. Wait until they have it available. If you can't wait, then get another phone. Problem solved.

I had a Dare for a week and returned it two weeks ago and went back to the Curve. It was horrible compared to my Curve. Being that I did use it for a week, I can truly say it doesn't even compare to the Storm, and I've had it less than 24 hours. Remember - there is a software release coming that will fix a lot of the issues you mention. I find it hard to believe that you found absolutely nothing positive to say about the Storm and every point you made was negative.

bboixtc,

I'm using a Dare. Since "dumb" is the opposite of "smart" or at least if its not "smart", it must be "dumb.." aplies...

Windows Mobile, Blackbery, Palm OS, iPhone, Google/Android are all considered "Smart Phones"... since the DARE isn't one of those... its not a "Smart Phone" and therefore must be a "Dumb Phone".. Symantics, I know.

Anyway, having used a Storm during several Verizon meetings, and launch events, I will say the Storm is a Blackberry that they swapped out the QWERTY or SureType keyboard and Track Ball for a touch screen with a new "press through" technology for some tactile feed back. The OS and menu's isn't revolutionary.. its very very similar to all the prior blackberries, so there are going to be some compromises.

That being said, Blackberries CAN do more.

The Storm's touch screen takes getting used to... just as it took getting used to using my GF's iPod Touch, my Dare, my Voyager, my VX6900, my iPAQ's...

Yes, some are better than others... some will like one more than the others.. BUT in my opinion NONE of the touch screens are perfect.. and I don't think there is one "clear winner" in my book for "BEST TOUCH SCREEN."

I am not going to sit here and say... "What are you talking about, the Storm is awesome!! You must be doing something wrong.." I'm not going to try to convince you to keep it.

But I will say, a software update is coming that will fix some of the lag isssues, scrolling problems, etc.

When I got my Dare, I couldn't stand the browser. I'd have to tap nearly 10 times on some links before it took my tap and got the link, even though the outline box was around what I was tapping on. the Dare v05 upgrade helped fixed most of my issues with the dare, and I'm happier.

In the end... ONLY YOU can decide if this is the right phone for you. Only you can decide if you can put up with some of these problems until they finally release the software upgrade.

Given what you wrote, I think you've already decided the Storm isn't the phone for you. I don't think anything any of us will say can change that.

i have a Dare which will be sent back to VZ as soon as I transfer my contacts and media off it to my Storm tomorrow. I WILL learn to use the Storm's touch screen, same as I learned to use the Instinct's when I went from a Helio Ocean to it. Simple fact is:

Phone manufacturers have been dumbing down the dumbph... err, 'feature' phones lately and I need my phone to be smarter.

If I could deal with the Dare's annoying bugs (and yeah, i have v05) until the Storm came out, I can deal with the Storm's annoyances until it gets updated. Because that is something LG taught me to look at: the update track record of the manufacturer. Being an early adopter means being ready to grind my teeth on bugs but the company's track record for support determines how badly I wear down the enamel. And RIM has a better track record than LG on device support (if I had known about the Voyager, I'd prolly still have an Instinct if Sprint hadn't screwed the pooch)

Like it has been said in other threads, get used to the BB OS. I understand that you had everything down to a science on your Dare, but this is a different operating system. When I switched from a Windows PC to a Mac, I found things that constantly frustrated me that I was used to being so easy on my PC but I couldn't get used to on the Mac. Heck, I'm 3 years into the switch and I still occasionally go to the upper right to click the X to close a program instead of the top left to click the red ball. Allow yourself to get used to it. Most of your complaints (2, 2a, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8) are pretty OS specific and you will get used to them.

1) I've had somewhat similar problems. But no lock ups to speak of...

2) Click somewhere in the text box and it will accept the word that you typed in without making any changes.

2a) Hold the 123 key to enter Num Lock mode. Same with the Shift key to enter Caps Lock mode.

3) Frankly, I haven't experienced any lag outside of the landscape/portrait mode switch.

4) Can't really comment on that as I don't make so many outgoing calls.

5) Again, can't comment as I have nothing to compare the Storm to.

6) I have not had a problem with the rocker keys not zooming in while using the camera. I agree that they don't change the ring volume, kind of annoying, but I can deal with that. The sound profile button is on the home page, so not too much of a hassle to change profiles.

7) There is some lag here. Definitely. I haven't been able to pinpoint after what operations it most likely happens. Someone in another thread mentioned hitting the Lock button and then hitting it again to unlock and then trying to flip the screen. Not sure. Its probably something that WILL get fixed with a software update, as they are able to finetune the process. Feedback control systems are sometimes very difficult to design.

8) I agree with this, however, there is a slightly easier way. Flick down on the screen to hide the keyboard and you have your send key, along with some others. This confused me for a while until I learned about hiding the keyboard and then "poof" I found the actual send key.

9) Clicking is a bit tedious and maybe I'm just more patient with these systems but I haven't really gotten overly frustrated with it so far.

Hope that some of my comments ease your frustation.

Better Yet - There's a Sound Profile button on the top of the phone. Changing volumes is still a pain in the ***, but you can do presets (loud, normal, quiet) for that.

Moto had it right on the StarTacs - man I wish I could still use mine (still have it and the battery still has juice!)

I prefer to just double click the menu button to send. You can double click just about anywhere, it'll just immediately accept what would have been the first highlighted option on the menu had you single clicked. In the case of messages of any type (email as well assuming a to, subject and body exist, not blank), double clicking will send.

I do like the swipe up / down to show / hide the keyboard - I was constantly hitting menu and selecting hide/show which was tedious until I figured out the sliding.

The camera zoom - you can slide finger up and down to zoom in and out as well.

More tips - if you want to go back and edit text you've typed, you can touch and hold where you want - wait for the cursor to change to a rectangle outline, and you can then slide left or right for exact cursor placement.

I'm sure we'll all be discovering more by accident as the weekend goes by.

Best damn phone Moto ever made! I had several - mine took severe beatings. Got dropped a lot, banged up, etc. I'd even purposely drop it or throw it to prove how good it was. All that would ever happen is the battery would fly off but never break. Each one I had lasted over 2 years with the abuse!

Now I'm scared to death of banging my hip against anything with the Storm in it, or that it'll slip from my fingers, shatter into a dozen pieces and I'll cry.

The 1st one, I've found the best option for now until hopefully they make it a little better to differentiate between clicking a link and zooming in (since it seems buggy to me right now a little), is at bottom of browser area, change it to cursor mode and highlight what you are trying to type in or click in. Click the screen in, and then switch back to the hand one.
