Buying a phone as a gift for Christmas - Be very careful with FIDO
I manage the accounts for myself and my wife. Last week I ordered an iPhone as a surprise christmas present for her. The phone was sent to my office directly from Fido. When it arrived it didn't have my name in the To line as I expected; instead it had my wife's current phone number. Since there was no name on the package our reception opened it and called the number (my wife's number) to say "Your Iphone has arrived." I had a very excited wife so had to BS her that it was a mistake and they'd send me a second one.
I called Fido to complain about this as I was pretty unhappy. I received an apology and an assurance nothing like this would happen again. Fine; that's good enough let's move on I thought.
Yesterday afternoon Fido called my wife's number to speak to me (as the account owner). My wife explained this wasn't my number and gave them my number. After that the Fido rep then said to my wife: "we're just calling to see how you're new iPhone is working out."
You won't be surprised to hear I was furious; Fido had told my wife twice now that she was getting an iPhone for Christmas. I called, as politely as possible since I was shaking with anger, to express my displeasure. I was told it wasn't possible to make a note not to call since it was a totally separate department that call with the customer satisfaction surveys.
Eventually the CSR apologized and offered me a $50 goodwill credit but I've got to say I'm still furious about this ruining of my christmas plans.
Anyway; the moral of this long (apologies) post is if you've bought anyone an iPhone with a phone number that the person currently uses work really hard to ensure Fido don't ruin for you too.
your first mistake was getting her an iphone...lol jk!
that really sucks, you even went out of your way to send it to your own office..u did everything you could and they still spoil it for you! that succckkksss!
well im sure shell try really hard to top your present now so thats good!
if i got my girlfriend an iphone shed throw the christmas turkey at me......lmao

There's no way to stop the CSAT call. once an upgrade / renewal has been completed on a specific number, an outsourced marketing group gets the notification and makes their call.

Lame.
Sorry to hear about that. I, for one who like giving surprises to my loved ones would be very annoyed at that. But then again, it's not like they did it out of malice. Just lame red marketing tape.
A lesson learned to all of us, perhaps?
