Add to the short list of lucky states that get the usually 2.49 a day Unlimited talk plan for 1.99 to include Texas. The other four are Ohio, Michigan, Florida and California. Maybe it's been listed before but this is the first time I've heard the Lone Star State on the 1.99 list.
Not exactly the news I wanted to hear (How about Nationwide for EVERYBODY?)
But it is a good sign. California and Texas are both MAJOR markets in terms of geography and population. It just makes sense for Page Plus to move at least into those markets. The combined populations of Cali and Texas is over 60 Million , a full 20 % of the entire US demographic , so it is a logical move.
Hopefully, the other markets get the 1.99 rate soon. The Talk/Text plan is a good heavy user response at a balanced pricepoint, but with Virgin, Boost, Cricket, Metro, Pocket, Revol and other smaller Unlimiteds offering a lower price point then $75 and even $60 a month it's kind of mild. This slow rollout to select markets with the 1.99 pricepoint can be seen just as a defensive move on Page Plus's part rather then a more aggressive proactive one.
Even Virgin Mobile and Tmobile's 49.99 plans are more defensive then offensive because they merely match the $50 price point with talk only, not trying to one up Boost, Cricket and Metro's offerings. (Virgin's real unlimited big gun seems to be their Unlimited Texter's Delight, texting standalone package plan.)
Oh well, 1.99 in Cali and Texas. Surfers and Cowboys rejoice! 5 down, 45 more states to go!
